Howler siren

The Howler™ Supplemental Siren was designed for use in high-risk areas such as an intersection. It is not intended to be, nor should
be operated as a replacement or alternative to the vehicle's primary siren. The low-frequency tones of the Howler demonstrate signifi-
cantly different audio characteristics as compared to those of a traditional higher-frequency siren.
While the low-frequency tones are better able to penetrate other vehicles, thus alerting drivers to the presence of the responding emer-
gency vehicle, these tones may also penetrate into the responding vehicle itself. This could potentially expose the operator to in-
creased noise levels. To help eliminate overexposure, the Howler siren has been designed with a built-in timing circuit. The
Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) (www.osha.gov) provides information necessary to determine safe exposure
times in Noise and Hearing Conservation, Section 1910.95 (Occupational Noise Exposure). Until you have determined the safe exposure
times for your specific application, this siren should be configured for the minimum operating time and operators should be required
to use an approved hearing protection device. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS RECOMMENDATION COULD CAUSE HEARING LOSS!

Installation:

IMPORTANT! This product was designed as part of the
WeCanX™ System. It can not be used as a stand alone
module.
Caution: Mounting will require drilling. It is absolutely necessary
to make sure that no other vehicle components could be
damaged in the process. Check both sides of the mounting
surface before starting. If damage is likely, select a different
mounting location.

Mounting:

1.
Locate a suitable mounting location. A dry, cool compartment is a good choice.
2.
Position the unit on the proposed mounting location. Using an awl or similar tool, scribe the mounting surface where the mounting holes are to be
drilled. Make sure that this mounting area allows sufficient ventilation for the unit.
3.
Remove the unit and using a drill bit sized for a #8 sheet metal screw, drill a hole in each of the areas scribed in step 2.
4.
Return the unit to its mounting location. Using the supplied 8 X 3/4 sheet metal screws secure the unit onto the mounting surface.
5.
Wire as shown above. Install a 15 amp fuse (Customer supplied) in the RED power wire.
WARNING! All customer supplied wires that connect to the positive terminal of the battery must be sized to supply at least 125% of the
maximum operating current and FUSED at the battery to carry that load. DO NOT USE CIRCUIT BREAKERS WITH THIS PRODUCT!

FEATURES:

• 200 watt amplifier output.
• Configurable over CAN through any Cencom Core main box after adding it as a device in the command software.
• Each Amp out (+) and Amp Out (-) pair can supply up to 100watts of power to the siren speakers
• Auxiliary out (+) can be daisy chained to the next expansion siren or Howlers auxiliary in (+).
• Auxiliary out (-) can be daisy chained to the next expansion siren or Howlers auxiliary in (-).
• Auxiliary in (+) can be daisy chained from the previous Cencom Core expansion siren or Howlers auxiliary out (+).
• Auxiliary in (-) can be daisy chained from the previous Cencom Core expansion siren or Howlers auxiliary out (-).
• Town and Country siren volume: The output power to the speakers can be switched between full volume (100 watts per speaker) and low
volume (10 watts per speaker) using relay 1. See programming software for operation.
• Diagnostic temperature/voltage reporting
• Diagnostic siren output current reporting
• Firmware upgradeable via main box
• Howler now plays its own tone rather than sensing and following existing tone
• Can be operated independently of other sirens
• Tones can be synchronized or asynchronous
• Internal memory to store larger siren files (4 MB)
