Using a Pulse Height Analyzer Probably the most
c onvenient
method
measurements is with a pulse height analyzer as
shown by the setup illustrated in Fig. 4.3. The
amplifier noise resolution spread can be measured
correctly with a pulse height analyzer and the 480 as
follows:
1. Select the energy of interest with the 480, and set

the linear amplifier and biased amplifier gain and
bias level controls so that the energy is in a
convenient channel of the analyzer.
2. Calibrate the analyzer in keV per channel, using
the purser. (Full scale on the pulser dial is 10 MeV
when calibrated as described in "Calibrating the Test
Pulser and Amplifier for Energy Measurements."
