CHAPTER 1
Integrating the SC400 Controller
The MicroTouch™ SC400 serial resistive controller is an accurate, small outline, low
cost, temperature stable controller capable of supporting a wide range of 3M Touch
Systems resistive touch screens. It was designed for internal mounting in OEM
applications.
This chapter covers the following SC400 controller specifications:
Cable connections
Mounting requirements
Power requirements and options
Status LED codes

Overview of the SC400 Touch Screen Controller

The SC400 controller is an uncased device using an RS-232 serial interface. The
communication parameters for the SC400 are N81 -- no parity, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit.
To integrate and test the SC400 controller, you need the following items:
A 3M Touch Systems 4-wire resistive touch screen. These touch screens are available in a
variety of sizes.
A method of establishing the serial data communication between the controller and your
system. The standard 3M Touch Systems RS-232 plug and play serial cable (P/N 7319630) is
recommended. This cable is PC99 compliant.
A power source.
A touch screen utility or driver with a calibration routine.
Note: You can use MicroTouch™ Software, which includes the touch screen device driver
and utilities software.
