Explanation of symbols

The symbol with the lightning in a triangle indicates that there is a risk to your health,
e.g. due to an electric shock.
The symbol with an exclamation mark in a triangle is used to highlight important
information in these operating instructions. Always read this information carefully.
The arrow symbol indicates special information and tips on how to use the product.
CAT I
Measurement Category I for taking measurements from electrical and electronic de-
vices that are not supplied directly with mains power (e.g. battery-operated devices,
protective extra-low voltage signal and control voltages, etc.).
CAT II
Measurement Category II for taking measurements from electrical and electronic
(600 V)
devices directly connected to the mains supply with a mains plug. This category also
includes all lower categories (e.g. CAT I for measuring signal and control voltages).
Direct Current
Alternating Current
Direct Current and Alternating Current
Earth housing
This symbol indicates that this product is built according to protection class II. It is
equipped with reinforced or dual insulation between the mains circuit and the output
voltage.
This product must only be used in dry, enclosed indoor areas. It must not become
damp or wet, as this may cause a fatal electric shock!
Earth potential
This product has been CE tested and therefore complies with the necessary national
and European regulations.

Safety information

Read the operating instructions carefully and observe in particular the safety
instructions. If you do not follow the safety information and information on
proper handling in these operating instructions, we will assume no liability for
any resulting personal injury or damage to property. Such cases will invalidate
the warranty/guarantee.
a) General information
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become a dange-
rous plaything for children.
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high
humidity, moisture, flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, stop using it and prevent
unauthorised use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Quick guide
• Safety information
• Handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height may
damage the product.
• Consult a technician if you are not sure how to use or connect the product, or if
you have concerns about safety.
• Maintenance, modifications and repairs must be carried out by a technician or a
specialist repair centre.
• If you have any questions that are not answered in these operating instructions,
please contact our technical customer service or other professionals.
• Observe the safety information in each section.
b) Connected devices
• Always observe the safety information and operating instructions of any other de-
vices which are connected to the product.
c) Electrical safety
• Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room into
a warm one. This may cause condensation to form, which can destroy the product.
Allow the product to reach room temperature before connecting it and putting it
into use. This may take several hours.
• Never pour liquids over electrical devices or place objects filled with liquid next
to the device. If liquid or a foreign object nevertheless enters the interior of the
device, first power down the respective mains socket (e.g. switch off the circuit
breaker) and then pull the mains plug from the mains socket. Discontinue use and
take the product to a specialist repair centre.
• Before plugging in the mains plug, check whether the voltage stated on the device
is the same as your mains voltage.
• This device was constructed according to protection class II. Only connect the
charger to a standard mains socket (230 V/AC, 50 Hz) connected to the public
grid.
• The mains outlet must be located near to the device and be easily accessible.
• Never unplug the mains plug by pulling on the cable. Always use the grips on
the plug.
• Unplug the mains plug from the mains socket if you do not plan to use the product
for an extended period of time.
• For safety reasons, disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket during thun-
derstorms.
• Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over these or become entangled in
them. This poses a risk of injury.
• Make sure that the mains cable is not squeezed, bent, damaged by sharp edges
or subjected to mechanical stress. Avoid excessive thermal stress on the mains
cable from extreme heat or cold. Do not modify the mains cable. Failure to adhere
to these instructions may lead to damage of the mains cable. A damaged mains
cable can cause a fatal electric shock.
• Do not touch the mains cable if there are any signs of damage. Power down the
respective mains socket (e.g. via the respective circuit breaker), and then carefully
unplug the mains plug from the mains socket. Never use the product if the mains
cable is damaged.
• To prevent risks, damaged mains cables may only be replaced by the manufactu-
rer, or a professional shop appointed by the manufacturer or a similarly qualified
person.
• Never insert or unplug the mains plug when your hands are wet.
• Use the appropriate mains cable. Only use the mains cable supplied with the
product. It must be approved for use in your country.
• To avoid an electric shock, the earth conductor must be grounded. The product
must be properly grounded before each connection to its input or output.
d) Measurement safety
• For installations in industrial facilities, follow the accident prevention regulations
for electrical systems and equipment issued by the national safety organisation
or the corresponding national authority. In schools, educational facilities, hobby
and DIY workshops, measuring devices must be operated under the responsible
supervision of qualified personnel.
• Before each measurement, make sure that the measuring device is not set to a
different measuring range/function, e.g. voltage measurement in current measu-
ring range.
• When using test leads without protective caps, measurements between the
measuring device and the earth potential must not exceed the CAT II measure-
ment category.
• Push the protective caps onto the probe tips until they click into place. To remove
the caps, pull them off the tips with some force.
• Always remove the probe tips from the measured object before changing the mea-
surement range.
• Exercise particular caution when working with voltages higher than 33 V (AC) and
70 V (DC). Even at such voltages you can get a life-threatening electric shock if
you touch the electrical conductor.
• Measurements in electrical circuits >33 V/AC and >70 V/DC must only be carried
out by specialists and technically instructed personnel who are familiar with the
relevant regulations and the ensuing risks.
