2.7.5 Cable Length/Installation for Leased Line/Multipoint Systems
If the FP-Modem-EU is to be connected to private cable installations (leased line or multipoint
mode) please consider the following:

Assume that neither the quality of the cable nor the noise on the cable has been
defined!
•
Perform communication tests before you specify the cable length!
•
Use over-voltage protection modules if the communication cable extends outside
the room or cabinet!
The reliability of the communication depends on the quality of the cable and the
way it is installed. The following extremes explain the situation:
If the data cable is not shielded and is located near and parallel to a noisy

power cable, you will already encounter problems at 10 meters!
If you lease a line with a specified quality from a public provider, the
-
modems might be able to communicate over a distance of some 100 km
(if repeaters are built-in)!
The wiring, the installation of the cables and the cable network setup need an expert. The
communication quality of the cable needs to be tested beforehand.
For an approved data communication cable you should contact a local company that carries out
the installation of the telephone line. The local company can also recommend the necessary
cable for the respective location in which you need the cable (underground, over poles...). The
company will also have experience on how to test reliable modem connections.
