Voltage drops
Inrush currents cause short-time voltage drops.
Under unfavourable power supply conditions, other
equipment may be affected.
If the system impedance of the power supply is lower
than 0.25 ø, disturbances are unlikely to occur.
Assembly and adjustment
Prior to assembly and adjustment always
unplug the tool.
Mounting and removing the guard (fig. B)
• Place the angle grinder on a table, spindle up.
• Mount the guard to the tool using the three
screws (10) with star washers.
• Rotate the guard to the required position and
tighten the lock nut (11).
• To remove the guard, loosen the three screws (10).
DW491 - Mounting and removing the diamond
guard DE8501 (option) (fig. C)
The diamond guard DE8501 has been designed for
depth adjustment and efficient dust extraction.
• Remove the guard from the angle grinder and
place the tool on a table, spindle up.

plate (14) and tighten the three screws (10).
Make sure the slots (15) in the rear plate and the
retention disc (16) coincide.
• Rotate the angle grinder to the required position
and tighten the lock nut (11).
60
• Fit an appropriate diamond cutting disc (see below).
• Mount the front plate (13). Make sure that the dust

disc (fig. D)
20
• Place the tool on a table, guard up.
-
• Fit the spacer (20) correctly onto the spindle (5).
• Place the grinding wheel or cutting disc on the
spacer.
• Screw the threaded flange (21) onto the spindle (5).
• Press the spindle lock (4) and rotate the grinding
wheel or cutting disc until it locks in position.
• Tighten the threaded flange (21) with the two-pin
spanner supplied.
• Release the spindle lock.
• To remove the grinding wheel or cutting disc,
loosen the threaded flange (21) with the two-pin
spanner.
Fitting a wire cup brush
• Screw the wire cup brush directly onto the
spindle without the use of the spacer and
threaded flange.
Mounting the side handle (fig. E)
• For grinding, screw the side handle (6) tightly into
one of the holes (8) on either side of the gear case.
• For cutting, screw the side handle (6) tightly into
