Self-maintenance
Note the following before you
begin working on your car:
Battery
Ensure that the battery cables are correctly
connected and tightened.
Never disconnect the battery when the
engine is running (e.g. when replacing the
battery).
Never use a fast charger to charge the
battery. The battery cables should be discon-
nected when recharging.
The battery contains acid that is both
corrosive and toxic. Handle the battery in an
environmentally-suitable way. Let your Volvo
dealer assist you.
Lifting the car
If the car is lifted with a workshop jack, it
should sit with the front edge on the engine
support arm. Do not damage the splashguard
under the engine. Ensure that the jack is
positioned so that the car cannot slide off the
jack. Always use axle stands or the like.
If you raise the car using a two pillar
workshop lift, ensure that the front and rear
lift arms are fixed under the lifting points on
the door sill. See the illustration.
