    The HERA works in a similar way to a sound level meter, measuring sound pressure level on a continuous basis. In addition the HERA memorises the average and maximum sound levels, measured on an ongoing basis.

Since you are a professional, you will certainly be familiar with the use and installation of this type of equipment. Nevertheless, we would like to remind you of certain precautions which should always be taken.

    HERA – user manual FRONT AND REAR PANEL DESCRIPTIONS FRONT PANEL LED display RMS, LEQ, MAX,… level display LCD display This display is used in conjunction with the rotary encoder and the pushbuttons. It shows settings, adjustments and provides a readout of control-data.

    This connector must ONLY be used for connection with the ARGOS. RS-232 PORT Enables connection with an external computer in order to read the HERA’s memory. External I²C bus external This connector allows an (optional) external display to be connected. This display would mimic the information shown on the front-panel LED display (1).

    Keep the HERA away from shocks and vibration. Avoid humidity, large temperature changes and dust when siting the device. HERA will work with any AC voltage between 90 V AC and 240 V AC and any mains frequency between 50 and 60 Hz.

    Disconnect the ARGOS and the HERA from the mains AC supply. Connect the microphone supplied with the HERA to the microphone input socket located on the rear panel of the HERA. Connect an XLR cable from the connector marked ‘To ARGOS MIC input’ on the HERA to the microphone input on the ARGOS.

    – user manual PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION The HERA can be used with the ARGOS or as a stand-alone unit. In both cases, the appliance: • Shows the current sound level, the average value calculated over a period of 10 seconds, 1 minute, 15 minutes or the highest level.

    START UP NOTE ON POWERING UP If the HERA has been stored where it is much colder than the installation site wait an hour or two before switching it on so that it can reach the ambient temperature. TURNING ON The HERA does not have an on/off switch.

    1. This cable is specially for the APEX HERA and therefore cannot be found in any computer shop. 2. This cable is not reversible. One side is for the HERA and the other for the PC. Connect the HERA side into the HERA RS-232 port (see rear panel diagram) and the PC side into an unused serial port on the PC.
  • Page 14 2. Double-click on ‘Add/Remove programs’. 3. Choose the tab ‘Windows Setup’. 4. Select 'Communications' then Details. 5. Check the box located just left of the Hyperterminal component and click OK. 6. Click OK in the main window.

    To launch Hyperterminal, go to the menu: Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications/Hyperterminal. As soon as the programme is launched the ‘Connection Description’ dialogue box appears. Select a name for your connection (for example, APEX HERA), select an icon from the list and click OK.

    The ‘Text Capture’ dialogue box appears. You must select a file in which to place the information. All data reeceived from the HERA will be copied into this file. COMMENT: Any data received before the destination File has been set up will not be stored ! You can now open this file into any application you choose.

    • replace it with a fuse type T315mA (antisurge fuse) 250Vac (Europe); • close the fuse holder. If the device still does not work and the new fuse has blown, take the HERA into an APEX- approved service centre. REPAIR If the HERA needs to be rapaired, complete the form on the following page, cut it out, attach it to the faulty unit and take it in to an APEX-approved service centre.
