cadence and speed test. If data are displayed there the sensor is fully functional. If you still have problems with your favorite
app, please contact our Customer Support for problem solving.
Since there is no standardized processing of app developers for BLE 4.0 and ANT +, it sometimes comes to unexpected
functional results, Maybe everything works, but no data is displayed in this Case please backup all the data of your app,
delete the app from the Mobile Phone and restart the phone and reinstall your app. This helps in most cases.
If there are other problems, please note the following:
Receiving device:
Make sure that your receiver meets the following criteria. Compatible with BLE 4.0 (Bluetooth low Energy Smart) Soft-
ware new as IOS 7.0, Android 4.3, Windows Mobile 8.1, and or ANT +
Apps:
All connections with BLE 4.0 to the receiving device are controlled within the app, under no circumstances within Blue-
tooth linkage in the operating system in the mobile phone.
BLE 4.0 supports one-to-one transmissions, e.g. from a heart rate monitor to exactly one receiver. You cannot connect
one heart rate monitor with two receivers simultaneously. If you want to change the receiver, you must first disconnect
the link in the app. If you cannot do this in the app, you must remove the receiver about 20m from the device to
disconnect. Following this disconnect procedure you can connect your device. Another source of trouble are apps or
receivers connecting „service" sensors like heart rate monitors automatically, which means that if your partner has such a
device (e.g. smartphone) your attempt to connect will fail, because the sensor is connected already to your partner's device.
If the sensor may have already been paired by your partner's device your partner need to disconnect the sensor before
you perform your installation.
(Our boss says „no one understands" and recommends call us before you get gray hair.)
The ANT + protocol allow multiple devices to be coupled simultaneously. The previously described Scenario is not relevant
here.
BLE 4.0 Make sure that you have only one sensor close to your device. Should there be two devices of same type (e.g.,
Heart Rate Monitor), you risk to select the wrong sensor during the pairing process. As a consequence you may see wrong
or no data displayed by your device, because your device is connected to the wrong sensor.
The ANT + protocol is e.g. From Garmin or Suunto devices. All sensors need to be in the device settings Registered.
NC-17 pulse belt
• Insert the battery so that you can see the (+ symbol) of the battery before you close the removing the top cover cap.
• Click the belt on the sensor so that the NC-17 logo is legible.
• Moisten the inside of the belt to the right and left of the sensor on the contact surfaces. Make contact with your body.
• Ensure that your favorite app allows the login of BLE 4.0 devices.
• Open your favorite app and enter the app settings to log in sensors. Pair the (E.g. Heart Rate Monitor). Two essential
information are exchanged during the coupling. The receiving device is bonded to the heartrate belt (bonding). In
some apps, the signal strength is displayed. Now the sensor and your device communi-cate and act on the optimum
transmission speed rate. This unique process can take 1-2 minutes. During this time, the display can be strong
fluctuations Subject to. When the process is finished, the sensor is properly installed and the display indicates the
exact measured value.
To save power, BLE 4.0 and ANT + sensors go into sleep mode when not in use. The wake-up procedure is different for
different types of sensors. For example a heart rate monitor wakes up when it has contact to your skin. A speed sensor
wakes up when the wheels of your bike start turning. Please note that the sensor is not visible to your device as long as it
is sleeping.
Special feature with VeloComputer Sensor VC # 5.1
In the past, speed and cadence was measured by a single Bluetooth sensor. This sensor was a single piece of hardware
mounted at the bicycle. A magnet was mounted on the spokes and a 2nd magnet was mounted on the crank. Both measure-
ment values were sent in a single Bluetooth telegram to the app of the receiver. As a consequence the receiver needed to
handle a single sensor to receive both speed and cadence measurement values. This works the last Seven years very well.
Due to the design of bicycles and the new technology, the trend continues as well as with the NC-17 to have separate
sensors with different mount locations for speed and cadence. So you have a distinct sensor for speed and another distinct
sensor for Cadence, making the mounting of the sensors more flexible.
