The cutting blades are made from high quality, hardened steel
and with normal usage, they will not require resharpening.
However, if you accidentally hit a wire fence (figure O), stones,
glass, or other hard objects, you may put a nick in the blade.
There is no need to remove this nick as long as it does not
interfere with the movement of the blade. If it does interfere,
remove the battery and use a fine toothed file or sharpening
stone to remove the nick. If you drop the trimmer, carefully
inspect it for damage. If the blade is bent, housing cracked,
handles broken or if you see any other condition that may affect
the trimmer's operation contact your local D
service center for repairs before putting it back into use.
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain agents which
greatly accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do not store the unit
on or adjacent to fertilizers or chemicals.
With the battery removed, use only mild soap and a damp
cloth to clean the unit. Never let any liquid get inside the unit;
never immerse any part of the unit into a liquid. Prevent the
blades from rusting by applying a film of light machine oil
after cleaning.

It is recommended that sharpening of blades be performed by

and
a D
WALT factory service center. However, blade edges may be
e
sharpened by using a fine tooth file
1. Run trimmer until cutting blades
are offset enough so the guard tooth cannot be touched by
the file. DO NOT file the guard teeth.
2. Be sure the lock-off lever is engaged, the blade has stopped,
and the battery has been removed before sharpening blade.
3. Wear proper eye protection and gloves, and be careful not
to cut yourself.
4. Carefully file the cutting edges of the blade with a fine tooth
file. File toward the cutting edge
angle (38 degrees from horizontal). File only the straight
cutting edges
edge curves into the center of the blade.
5. Flip the trimmer over to sharpen the bottom blade.
6. Repeat steps to sharpen the opposite side of each blade.
Cleaning
WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of the main housing
