Important Information
Avid recommends that you read all the information in these release
notes thoroughly before installing or using any new software release.
If you have an Avid AirSpace system and Avid Unity TransferManager
in your workgroup environment, you need to configure the Alteon
Web switch. Use the following procedures to configure the switch.
The Alteon 180 Web switch has a console port that allows you to view
the switch's configuration parameters. The following instructions
describe how to connect a terminal to the console port to view the
switch settings and make any necessary changes to the settings.

To verify or change the configuration settings for the Alteon 180 Web
switch, you must establish a console (DCE) connection. To establish a
console connection, you must provide the following:
An ASCII terminal (such as your NewsCutter) or other computer
running ASCII terminal emulation software (such as

  • Page 3 Configuring the Alteon 180 Web Switch The Alteon 180 Web switch WebOS software includes a Setup utility. Use the Setup utility as instructed in the remainder of this document to enter all the necessary information required for the proper switch configuration.

    AVID CONFIDENTIAL Setting Parameters IP Default Gateway Enable IP Forwarding VLAN Number Disable/Enable Jumbo Enable Frames Using the Setup Utility If you have never run Setup on this switch you will be asked to do so when you log in. You can also manually activate the Setup utility from the command line interface any time after you log in to the switch.
  • Page 6 If you decide later that you need to configure VLANs, you can configure them using the Setup utility configuration menus as described in your Alteon 180 Web switch documentation. Next, the Setup utility prompts you to enter basic system information, including the date and time.
  • Page 7 AVID CONFIDENTIAL 4. Enter the last two digits of the year using a number from 00 to 99. “01” is considered the year 2001. To keep the current year, press Enter. The system displays the date and time settings. 5. Enter the hour of the current day using a number from 00 to 24. To keep the current hour, press Enter.

The Enable IP forwarding prompt appears Enable IP forwarding? [y/n] 14. Type n and press Enter to disable IP forwarding. The Routing Interface Protocol (RIP) supply prompt appears.

When you make configuration changes to the switch, you must save the changes so they are used beyond the next time you reset or restart the switch.
