Issue 01, May 2006 Chart-1 Unpack and Inspect Equipment PURPOSE Follow this procedure to unpack and inspect the 1677 SONET Link and to report any shipping damage or missing parts. GENERAL This procedure covers both the 18RU and 15RU shelf types.

Issue 01, May 2006 Chart-13 Verify Frame Ground PURPOSE This procedure is used to verify frame grounding of equipment rack and 1677 SONET Link chassis. STEP PROCEDURE DANGER: Possibility of personal injury. This equipment might contain aluminum electrolytic capacitors that present a potential safety hazard when overstressed.

Chart-13 3EM13849AD Issue 01, May 2006 Is measured value of resistance above 50 ohms? If yes, troubleshoot and go to step 5. If no, go to step 9. Use dmm to measure resistance between B battery return and frame ground. Measured resistance includes all wiring from battery return to frame ground.
Exercise caution to avoid shorting power input terminals. At power panel of each 1677 SONET Link shelf in rack, set Power A and Power B switches to OFF. See figure 14-1.

Inspect and, when necessary, clean fiber-optic cable connector and module adapter before connecting them. Refer to the 1677 SONET Link Turn-Up manual (PN 3EM13850AB) for inspection and cleaning procedure. Open shutter on fiber-optic adapter of module (see figure 4-1).
Determine the number, the lengths, and the types of jumper cables that are needed.
