  • Page 10 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Precautions to take before using the machine Do not wear loose clothing which could become caught up in moving parts. Wear the appropriate protective clothing for the work in hand (gloves, shoes, goggles, helmet, ear-protectors, etc.).
  • Page 11 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Precautions when driving on public roads Dimensions Depending on the dimensions of the machine, contact the relevant authorities to ensure that it can be legally transported on public roads. If the machine is over the maximum legal size, follow the local regulations for special transports of oversize equipment.
  • Page 12 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Precautions when coupling Before attaching the machine, make sure that it cannot accidentally start moving (chock the wheels) and that the parking stand is in the right position. The machine must only be attached to the hitch points provided for this purpose.

The protective shield of the tractor PTO stub, the PTO shaft guards and the protective covering of the machine input shaft must always be in place and in good condition.

Remote controlled components Danger of crushing and shearing can exist when components are operated by hydraulic or pneumatic controls.

They are there to warn you of potential dangers and to tell you how to avoid accidents. Always keep the safety decals clean and readable, and replace them when they are worn, damaged, missing or illegible.

It is strongly recommended to have your machine checked by your Kuhn dealer after each season, especially tools and their attaching hardware. Projection of stones and foreign objects For driver safety, always use a tractor equipped with a cab.

Check that the tractor's authorized gross weight as well as its lift capacity and maximum weight per axle are not surpassed. The front axle load (1) must never, under any circumstances, be less than 20% of the tractor's unladen weight.

The tractor PTO stub must rotate at a speed of 1000 min Separate the two half PTO shafts and connect them to the machine's input shaft and to the tractor PTO stub.

The angle gearbox is lubricated with 0.4 L (0.1 US gal) of SHELL SPIRAX A extreme-pressure oil for mechanical transmissions with viscosity grade SAE 80W90 and API grade GL5.

The hydraulic tank is filled with 60 L (15.85 US gal)( oil type SHELL TELLUS 46 or a mineral hydraulic oil with a viscosity complying with the standard ISO 46 category HM.

Lubricate with SHELL multi-purpose grease grade NLGI 2 - Position switch (1) in position (a) to energize centralized greasing. Regularly check tank grease level. The grease level must always be between maximum and minimum level.

  • Page 80 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Interlocking of the right mowing unit transport hook If the hook does not engage properly when placing the machine in transport position: - Increase mowing unit ground pressure 180 bar (2610 psi). - Check horizontal alignment of ball pivot (1) and righ mowing unit transport hook (2).
  • Page 81 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* The conditioner belts Never replace belts individually. When a belt is damaged, always replace the whole set (Part no. 83101688). The automatic tensioning device ensures correct tension throughout the belt's service life. Should the belts no longer drive, they have reached their useful service life.
  • Page 82 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Checking the cutterbar oil level Periodically check the cutterbar oil level: - Place the cutterbar in horizontal position (with regards to X and Y axis). - Remove filler plug (1) and (2) as well as their seals.
  • Page 83 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Inspection of knives and securing elements Immediately replace worn or damaged parts with genuine KUHN parts. Knives Inspect systematically all knives before the machine is operated to: - guarantee the cutting quality. - guarantee safety in use.
  • Page 84 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Fixing elements Check the fixing elements: - After hitting an obstacle. - When replacing knives. - At the beginning of each season. The fixing bolts should be changed in the following cases (2): - When there is visible warping.
  • Page 85 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Knife replacement Before carrying out any maintenance or repairs on the machine, switch off the tractor engine, remove ignition key, wait until all moving parts have come to a standstill and apply park brake. Replace knife lock-nuts and bolts when they have been removed 5 times.
  • Page 86 Mower conditioner FC703 RA* Pivot special tool downwards to free spring plate from screw head. Knives can be turned over on the same disc to use the other cutting edge or replaced. On each knife, an arrow indicates the disc's direction of rotation.
