Connecting the power cables
1)
Connect the
IX:
power cable (provided with the disk drive) to the 6-pin
connector on the rear of the Vector 3.
NOTE: '!he term Vector 3 as it is used
in this manual, refers to the complete microcomputer system housed in the
console cabinet.
2) Connect the AC power cord fran the rear of the Vector 3
to
an appropriate
wall receptacle.
3) With the cover still removed,'check that all connections have been made
properly
and
all boards are seated properly in their slots.
2.4
Initial Testing
WARNING
Extreme care is recommended when handling the unit when the cover is off.
Potentially lethal voltages are present.
1) Make certain that no diskette has been inserted in the drive.
Turn the
Vector 3 unit on by switching the main PJwer switch at the rear of the console
to the on position.
The Vector 4.X monitor banner should appear on the
screen.
2) Check the red LED light on the drive.
If
it went on and stayed on when the
PJwer was first applied, the disk controller cable connection was reversed.
Turn the PJwer off at the rear of the unit and wait a full minute.
Reverse the
connector on the top of the disk controller board; turn the unit back on.
Observe the LED.
It should
be
off.
If
it stays on new, disconnect the system
and call your authorized Vector Graaphic service representative.
If the light
is off you may continue the test.
3} With no diskette in the drive, depress the B key.
'!he red LED on the disk
dri ve should come on at this p::>int.
The display on the screen will say
BOJT
DISK
to
the right of the M:)N> pranpt.
'!he red LED should remain on until you
press the reset button on the rear of -G."le console.
Using the main p::>wer switch
at the rear of the console, turn the system off and continue with the next
section

Completing the installation
1)
At the rear of the console, the basepan (bottom cover) has an angled
section wbich is slightly larger than the flat cable.
Rerrove the black strain
relief bracket which is attached to the angled section with two screw13.
Route
the flat cable from the controller board out the rear of the console by
clamping the cable
to
the angled section with the strain relief bracket.
2)
If you are going to install a printer, you may wish to skip tightening the
screws at this p::>int.
If not, replace the console cover by fastening the cover
to the basepan using the four Philips head screw13 removed in the cover removal
