The following table indicates symptoms and corrective actions.

Symptom
Pilot burner outage, varying
performance, or poor mV output.
Pilot burner burning, manual valve
(if included) turned to the "On"
position, thermostat calling for
heat. Main burner does not come
on.
Thermostat not calling for heat, or
turned down, manual valve (if
included) in the "On" position. Main
burner does not shut off.
No burner flame or flame does not
stay on.

Excessive draft
Recirculation of flue products
Excessive temperature
Improper pilot flame size or
characteristic
Defective thermocouple
Weak holding BASO power unit
Defective thermostat
Defective operator
Shorted thermostat circuit
Foreign particles lodged between
the valve seat
Thermocouple out of position
Thermocouple lead dirty or loose
Defective thermocouple
Defective BASO power unit
Defective orifice
Unusually strong drafts

Corrective Action
Baffle secondary air or shield pilot burner.
Check venting and main orifice sizing and
correct where necessary.
Check main burner input and correct if
necessary.
Check gas pressure, clean pilot burner,
and adjust flame.
Perform the Open Circuit Millivolt Readings
procedure.
Perform the Dropout Testing procedure.
Perform the Continuity Testing procedure.
Check for operator input voltage. If present,
replace the valve. If not, check voltage
source.
Perform the Continuity Testing procedure.
Replace the valve.
Reposition thermocouple properly.
Clean and tighten thermocouple lead
connection.
Perform the Open Circuit Millivolt Readings
procedure.
Perform the Dropout Testing procedure.
Clean or replace orifice.
Baffle secondary air or shield burner.
