Read all of this manual carefully before using your
appliance.
Electrical safety
This product is double insulated; therefore no earth
wire is required. Always check that the power
supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating
plate.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or an authorised Black & Decker Service
Centre in order to avoid a hazard.
Extension cables
A 2 or 3 core cable may be used as the appliance is
double insulated and of class II construction.
Up to 30m (100 ft) can be used without loss of power.

Assembly (fig. A and B)
Warning! Before assembly, make sure that the appliance is
switched off and unplugged.
Warning! Make sure that the appliance is switched off and
cool before fitting or removing the accessories.
Your heat gun is supplied with an integrated Black & Decker
scraper.
Align the slot of the scraper blade (9) with the protrusion
on the blade holder (10) and position under the retaining
screw (8).
Note: Make sure that the hole in the scraper (9) is to the left
of the screw (8) in the blade holder (10).
Tighten the retaining screw (8).

Place the blade holder (10) over the nozzle outlet (1).
Make sure that it is aligned; the small bump on the
inside of the blade holder (10) engages with the recess
on the nozzle.
Tighten the blade holder clamp screw (11).
Your heat gun (KX1693 only) is also supplied with the
following four nozzles. For best results it is recommended
that nozzles are always used.
Fish tail nozzle (12) - Ideal for removing paint or varnish
from large flat surfaces.
Cone nozzle (15) - Concentrates the air stream on a smaller,
more concentrated area.
Spoon reflector nozzle (14) - disperses the air evenly
around the whole object.
Glass protector nozzle (13) - for the protection of glass
during paint stripping.
Fit the connecting piece of the accessory over the
nozzle (1).
Your appliance is also supplied with a manual scraper for
stripping paint and varnish.
Dual position handle (fig. C)
Your appliance is a highly versatile heat gun with a dual
position handle which can be used comfortably for many
different applications. It is designed to be used in either pistol
grip mode (a) or in-line mode (b).
To switch between positions hold down the handle
unlock button (3) and rotate the handle 180 degrees.
Use
Operating your heat gun (fig. D)
To turn the heat gun on, push the heat setting switch (4)
forward to the 1, 2 or 3 position (position 3 is on the
KX1693 only).
Note: The position numbers represent the heat settings
described in the technical data table at the end of the
manual.
To switch your heat gun off, pull the heat setting switch
(4) back to reveal the off (O) position.
Using the appliance
Allow the appliance to heat up for a few seconds before
use.
Note: At first use some smoke may emit from the nozzle.
This is normal and will soon decrease.
Low - use a low temperature setting for drying paint and
varnish, removing stickers, shrinking insulation tubes,
and thawing frozen pipes.
