    MS-98D3 MS-98D3 CPU (Central Processing Unit) When nstallng the CPU, make sure that you nstall the cooler to prevent over- heatng. If you do not have the CPU cooler, consult your dealer before turnng on the computer. Important Overheating Overheating will seriously damage the CPU and system. Always make sure the cooling fan can work properly to protect the CPU from overheating.
  • Page 15 Hardware Setup Hardware Setup CPu INSTALLATION When you are nstallng the CPU, make sure the CPU has a cooler attached on the top to prevent overheatng. Meanwhle, do not forget to apply some thermal paste on CPU before nstallng the heat snk/cooler fan for better heat dsper- son.

Align the holes on the motherboard with the cooler. Push down the cooler until its four clips get wedged into the holes of the motherboard.

    Hardware Setup Hardware Setup Memory These DIMM slots are ntended for memory modules. 1. Unlock the DIMM slot by flp- png open ts sde clps. 2. Vertcally nsert the DIMM nto the DIMM slot. The DIMM has an off-center notch at the bottom that wll only allow t to ft one way nto the DIMM slot.

Important Make sure that all power connectors are connected to the power supply to ensure stable operation of the motherboard.     MS-98D3 MS-98D3 Connector FAN POwER CONNECTOR: CPuFAN, SYSFAN The fan power connectors support system coolng fan wth +12V. When con- nectng the wre to the connectors, always note that the red wre s the postve and should be connected to the +12V; the black wre s Ground and should be connected to GND.

Important Please do not fold the SATA cable into a 90-degree angle. Otherwise, data loss may occur during transmission.

  • Page 24 MS-98D3 MS-98D3 CHASSIS INTRuSION PINHEADER: JCASE1 Ths connector connects to the chasss ntruson swtch cable. If the computer case s opened, the chasss ntruson mechansm wll be actvated. The system wll record ths ntruson and a warnng message wll flash on screen. To clear the warnng, you must enter the BIOS utlty and clear the record.
  • Page 25 Hardware Setup Hardware Setup LVDS INVERTER CONNECTOR: JINV1 The connector s provded for LCD backlght optons. LVDS Connector: JLVDS1 The LVDS (Low Voltage Dfferental Sgnal) connector provdes a dgtal nterface typcally used wth flat panels. After connectng an LVDS nterface flat panel to the JLVDS1, be sure to check the panel datasheet and set the LVDS jumper to proper power voltage.
  • Page 26 MS-98D3 MS-98D3 FRONT uSB PINHEADER: JuSB1, JuSB2 THIS CONNECTOR, COMPLIANT WITH INTEL I/O CONNECTIVITY DE- SIGN GUIDE, IS IDEAL FOR CONNECTING HIGH-SPEED USB INTERFACE PERIPHERALS SUCH AS USB HDD, DIGITAL CAMERAS, MP3 PLAYERS, PRINTERS, MODEMS AND THE LIKE. Important Note that the pins of VCC and GND must be connected correctly to avoid pos- sible damage.

    Hardware Setup Hardware Setup Jumper Important Avoid adjusting jumpers when the system is on; it will damage the motherboard. CLEAR CMOS JuMPER: JCMOS1 There s a CMOS RAM onboard that has a power supply from an external battery to keep the data of system confguraton. Wth the CMOS RAM, the system can automatcally boot OS every tme t s turned on.

COM1_SEL1 COM Voltage Rng (for COM1) COM2_SEL1 (for COM2) LVDS Power Jumper: JVDD1 Use ths jumper to specfy the operaton voltage of the LVDS nterface flat panel.

    Hardware Setup Slot MINI-PCIE (PERIPHERAL COMPONENT INTERCONNECT ExPRESS) SLOT The Mn-PCIe slot s provded for connectng the Mn-PCIe nterface expanson card. Important When adding or removing expansion cards, make sure that you unplug the power supply first. Meanwhile, read the documentation for the expansion card to config- ure any necessary hardware or software settings for the expansion card, such as jumpers, switches or BIOS configuration.

    BIOS Setup Ths chapter provdes nformaton on the BIOS Setup program and allows users to confgure the system for optmal use. Users may need to run the Setup program when: ■ An error message appears on the screen at system startup and re- quests users to run SETUP.

When the message below appears on the screen, press <DEL> or <F2> key to enter Setup.
