Maintenance

Engine Oil Level

CARE MUST BE TAKEN BY THE SERVICE PERSON
TO PREVENT BEING BURNED BY HOT OIL.
NOTICE
Check only when the machine is in a level position.
NOTICE
Lower than recommended oil levels result in
insufficient lubrication and serious engine damage.
Higher than recommended oil levels result in
inefficient engine operation and piston gumming
and subsequent failure.
The engine oil should be checked before engine is started.
When the engine is cold, the oil should be between the "ADD"
and the "FULL" levels on the dipstick (1). The dipstick can
be found on the front side of the engine.
The oil filter (2) is located on the back side of the engine
enclosure.
The engine oil drain plug (see engine manual for plug location.)
is accessible through the bottom of the engine.
NOTE: It is best to run engine to allow oil to recirculate
before draining.

Fuel Tank - Fill

DO NOT SMOKE OR ALLOW ANYTHING
FLAMEABLE NEAR MACHINE WHILE REFUELING.
1
Remove the fuel cap (3) slowly. Carefully fill tank, and replace
cap. (Fill tank all the way until fuel begins entering fill neck.
This will reduce water condensation.)
See "System Fluids Specifications" on page 20 of this
"Maintenance" section for more information.
Air Cleaner - Check & Replace Filter

2
Operating engine with loose or damaged air cleaner
components could cause premature wear and
failure. Replace all bent or damaged components.
1. Unhook retaining clips and remove end cap(s).
2. Check and clean inlet screen (if equipped)
3. Pull air cleaner element out of housing and replace.
Check condition of inner element: replace when dirty.
a. To change the air filter on the Kohler engine, simply
undo the clips on the rear section of the air cleaner. The
rear section will come off, remove the filter by pulling it
out while slightly twisting. Replace it with the new filter
and reattach the rear cap, making sure the dust ejector
is pointing in a down position.
