1.2 Notes

The symbols and notes below may appear in
Grundfos installation and operating instructions,
safety instructions and service instructions.
Observe these instructions for explosion-
proof products.
A blue or grey circle with a white graphical
symbol indicates that an action must be
taken.
A red or grey circle with a diagonal bar,
possibly with a black graphical symbol,
indicates that an action must not be taken
or must be stopped.
If these instructions are not observed, it
may result in malfunction or damage to the
equipment.
Tips and advice that make the work easier.

2. Receiving the product

When receiving the product, check the following
points:
the product is as ordered.
the product is suitable for the actual supply
voltage.
the product has not been damaged during
transportation.

3. Installing the product

Installation must be carried out by
Grundfos or an authorised service
workshop.
The free end of the permanently connected supply
cable must be connected by using a suitable certified
junction box or it must be connected outside the
explosive area.
CAUTION
Electric shock
Minor or moderate personal injury
- Switch off the power supply before you
start any work on the product.
- Make sure that the power supply cannot
be accidentally switched on.
When the sensor is re-fitted after oil change, it must
be cleansed by means of a solvent.

3.1 Explosion-proof environments

The control unit must protect the sensor:
1. The WIO sensor is approved according
to EN/IEC 60079-18. In Ex and IECEx
applications, the WIO sensor shall be
protected by an external current
limitation of 350 mA with a breaking
capacity of the maximum prospective
short circuit current of the supply.
This limited current must be provided
by a galvanic isolated power supply to
the sensor.
Note: As the IO 113 is equipped with
this current limitation and galvanic
isolated power supply, no further
protection is required when using an IO
113.
2. The sensor must always be installed in
such a way that it is protected against
mechanical damage and the possibility
for electrostatic charge.
3. The sensor must be installed
submerged in an oil chamber or similar
- not for use in air environment.
4. The sensor is protected using
protecting method "m" (EN/IEC 60079-
18), "e" (EN/IEC 60079-7) and "t" (EN/
IEC 60079-31).

3.2 Mechanical installation

The mechanical installation depends on the pump
type and whether the wiring of the sensor in the
pump must be internal or external. See sections
3.2.1 Internal wiring, inside pump
wiring, outside
pump.
However, the sensor must always be installed in
such a way that it is protected against mechanical
damage and the possibility for electrostatic charge.
This will typical be in the oil chamber or similar.
3.2.1 Internal wiring, inside pump
When sensors with internal wiring are to be replaced,
proceed according to the service instructions of the
pump in question.
It is important to ensure proper earth
connection between the metal housing of
the WIO sensor and the pump housing.
This is normally done through the holder
for the WIO sensor.
