Margin Scale and Margin Stops
Th e margin scale and margin stops are located
directly above t he keyboard on t he front of your
typewriter. The red arrow t hat moves along the
scale as you type sh ows yo u t he exact typing
position. These features make marg in resetting a
very simple operat ion.
The pitch of your typewriter is shown o n the left
side of the margin scale. Your typewriter is a 12-
pitch (elite) typew riter w ith a 12-pitch marg in scale,
w hich means t hat

charact ers fit in each t yped
inch. A lw ays use a 12-pitch type element on t his
typewriter.

To set or change t he left or rig ht marg in :
Push in on t he appropriat e margin stop and slide it
to t he correct position on t he margin scale.
Use t he spacebar to move t he ca rrier out of t he
w ay w hen setting a margin t o t he right of t he
carrier's present location .
You can space and tab throug h the right margin,
but you cannot type t hro ugh t he right margin
unless you press the margin release key (MAR REL).
M argin Release Key (MAR REL)
Use t he margin release key (MAR REL ) to move the
carrier beyond t he left or right margin.
To move to t he left of the left margin:
1. Press t he carrier ret urn key (RETU RN) to retu rn
t he ca rrier t o t he left margin.
2 . Press the margin release key (MAR REL).
3. Press t he backspace key (BACK SPACE) to
backspace th rough t he margin.
To t ype thro ugh t he r ight marg in :
1. When the keyboa rd locks, press the margin
release key (MAR REL)
2. Cont inue typing.
