4 Planning a Wireless
Network
54
• Interference
Radio waves may have an intensifying or quenching effect on one another.
This is the case, for example, if a receiver is located in the vicinity of both a
receiver and its reflection.
Remedies
Apply the following measures to reduce the interference factors described
above:
• Increase the quality of the radio coverage by splitting the network into indi-
vidual radio cells, each with a separate access point.
• Use directional antennas which bundle the signal and thereby extend and
optimize the wireless connection.
• Switch off devices which operate on the same frequency and disrupt data
exchange or operate them outside the range of the WLAN only.
• If suitable measures cannot be taken to avoid interference, do not use WLAN
for data transmission.
