ENGINE SAFETY IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Most accidents with engines can be prevented if you follow all instructions in this manual and on the engine. Some of the most common hazards are discussed below, along with the best way to protect yourself and others.
FUEL VALVE LEVER The fuel valve opens and closes the passage between fuel tank and carburetor. The fuel valve lever must on in the “ON” position for the engine to run. When the engine is not in use, leave the fuel valve lever in the “OFF” position to prevent carburetor flooding and to reduce the possibility of a fuel leak.
For your safety, and to maximize the service life of your equipment, it is important to take a few moments before you operate the engine to check its condition. Be sure to take care of any problem you find or have your local Approved Webb Service Dealer correct it, before you operate the engine. WARNING Incorrect maintenance of this engine, or failing to correct a problem before operation, could cause a malfunction in which you could be seriously injured.
OPERATION SAFE OPERATING PRECAUTIONS Before operating the engine for the first time, please review the IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION and the section titled BEFORE OPERATION. WARNING Carbon monoxide gas is toxic. Breathing it can cause unconsciousness and even kill you. Avoid any areas or actions that expose you to carbon monoxide.
Page 49
3. Move the throttle lever away from the “SLOW” position, about 1/3 of the way toward the “FAST” position. (Some engine applications use a remotely mounted throttle control rather than the engine mounted throttle lever shown). SLOW HIGH THROTTLE LEVER 4.
6. If the choke lever has been moved to the “CLOSED” position to start the engine, gradually move it to the “OPEN” position as the engine warms up. CHOKE LEVER OPEN STOPPING THE ENGINE To stop the engine in an emergency, simply turn the engine switch to the “OFF” position. Under normal conditions, use the following procedure.
The maintenance schedule applies to normal operating conditions. If you operate your engine under unusual conditions, such as sustained high load or high temperature operation, or use in unusually wet or dusty conditions, consult your local Approved Webb Service Dealer for recommendations applicable to your individual needs and use.
Every 2 years (Replace if necessary) (2) 1. Service more frequently when used in dusty areas. 2. These items should be serviced by your Approved Webb Service Dealer 3. For commercial use, log hours of operation to determine proper maintenance intervals.
This should not cause any concern for the operator. If this occurs at a steady engine speed, under normal load, change your brand of petrol. If it persists after taking this action, have the machine inspected by your Approved Webb Service Dealer. NOTE Running the engine with persistent spark knock or pinging can cause engine damage.
ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK Check the engine oil level with the engine stopped and on a level surface. 1. Remove the filler cap/dipstick and wipe it clean. 2. Insert and remove the filler cap/dipstick without screwing it into the filler neck. Check the oil level shown on the filler cap/dipstick.
SERVICE YOUR ENGINE Oil is a major factor affecting performance and service life. Use 4-stroke SAE-30 or 10W-30 lawnmower engine oil. We recommend Handy Parts Oil (HP-140 or HP-195). We recommend that you use API Service Category SJ/SL oil. AIR FILTER INSPECTION Remove the air cleaner cover and inspect the filter.
7. Attach the spark plug cap/wire. IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT (Recommended action for Approved Webb Service Dealer) Standard Idle Speed: 1600+160rpm 1. Start the engine outdoors and allow it to warm up to operating temperature.
FUEL STABILIZER To keep fuel fresh, we recommend you use SURE-START FUEL ADDITIVE (HP-199) from Handy Parts. A fuel additive added to your fuel at the time of mixture, will help make your machine easier to start, extend the shelf life of your fuel mixture for up to two years, keeps the carburettor & engine clean, plus reduces emissions and increases fuel economy.
Fast position. Fuel filter clogged, carburetor Replace or repair faulty Take engine to an Approved malfunction, ignition components as necessary, with Webb Service Dealer malfunction. Valves stuck etc. approved genuine parts. ENGINE LACKS POWER POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTION Check air filter...
High altitude performance can be improved by specific modifications to the carburetor. If you always operate your engine at altitudes above 5,000 feet (1500 metres), have your Approved Webb Service Dealer perform a carburetor modification. This engine, when operated at high altitude with the carburetor modifications for high altitude use, will meet each emission standard throughout its useful life.
