    1. Important safety instructions Your BenQ projector is designed and tested to meet the latest standards for safety of information technology equipment. However, to ensure safe use of this product, it is important that you follow the instructions mentioned in this manual and marked on the product.
  • Page 5 Safety Instructions (Continued) The lamp becomes extremely hot during operation. Allow the projector to cool for approximately 45 minutes prior to removing the lamp assembly for replacement. Do not operate lamps beyond the rated lamp life. Excessive operation of lamps beyond the rated life could cause them to break on rare occasions.

    Safety instructions for ceiling mounting of the projector We want you to have a pleasant experience using your BenQ projector, so we need to bring this safety matter to your attention to prevent damage to person and property. If you intend to mount your projector on the ceiling, we strongly recommend that you use a proper fitting BenQ projector ceiling mount kit and that you ensure it is securely and safely installed.

    This is normal and expected behavior. Shipping contents The projector is shipped with the cables required for connection to a PC. Carefully unpack and verify that you have all of the items shown below. If any of these items are missing, please contact your place of purchase.

    Remote control effective range Infra-Red (IR) remote control sensors are located on the front and the back of the projector. The remote control must be held at an angle within 30 degrees perpendicular to the projector's IR remote control sensors to function correctly. The distance between the remote control and the sensors should not exceed 6 meters (~ 20 feet).

    Your room layout or personal preference will dictate which installation location you select. Take into consideration the size and position of your screen, the location of a suitable power outlet, as well as the location and distance between the projector and the rest of your equipment.

    In the connections shown below, some cables may not be included with the projector (see "Shipping contents" on page Connecting a computer The projector provides a VGA input socket that allows you to connect it to a laptop or desktop computer. To connect the projector to a laptop or desktop computer: Take the supplied VGA cable and connect one end to the D-Sub output socket of the computer.

    Component Video is the only video output that delivers native 16:9 aspect ratio picture. • If the selected video picture is not displayed after the projector is turned on and the correct video source has been selected, check that the Video source device is turned on and operating correctly.

    (If necessary) Rotate the focus ring to adjust the picture clarity. If the projector is still hot from previous activity, it will run the cooling fan for approximately 110 seconds before energizing the lamp. If you are prompted for a password, press the arrow buttons to enter a four digit password.

    If the frequency/resolution of the input signal exceeds the projector's operating range, you will see the message 'Out of Range' displayed on the screen.     Write down the number and turn off your projector. Seek help from the local BenQ service center to decode the number. You may be required to provide proof of purchase documentation to verify that you are an authorized user of the projector.
  • Page 24: Switching Input Signal

    To prevent unnecessary waste of lamp time, you can activate the Auto Off function to turn off the projector automatically when there is no signal detected after a period of time. To set the Auto Off time, go to the to set a time from 5 to 20 minutes in 5-minute increments.

    Screw the rear adjuster foot in a reverse direction. If the screen and the projector are not perpendicular to each other, the projected picture becomes vertically trapezoidal. To correct this situation, adjust the value of Keystone in the Picture menu, on the projector control panel, or on the remote control.

    4:3 ratio, and digital TV and DVDs are usually in 16:9 ratio. With the advent of digital signal processing, digital display devices like this projector can dynamically stretch and scale the picture output to a different aspect than that of the picture input source.

    Go to the Mode menu and press The preset picture modes are stored in the projector along with the current color temperature setting for each input. You can change the picture mode and color temperature settings for the currently active input, and your selection is automatically stored in the projector and associated with that input source.

    Using the OSD menus The projector is equipped with on-screen display (OSD) menus for making various adjustments and settings. There are 17 different menu languages. (Refer to The following example describes the adjustment of Keystone. Press MENU on the projector or MENU on the remote control to turn the OSD menu on.

    6. Maintenance Care of the projector Your projector needs little maintenance. The only thing you need to do on a regular basis is to keep the lens clean. Never remove any parts of the projector except the lamp. Contact your dealer if other parts need replacing.

    The Lamp indicator light and Temperature warning light will light up if the lamp becomes too hot. Turn the power off and let the projector cool for 45 minutes. If the Lamp or Temp indicator still lights up after turning the power back on, please contact your dealer.
