For any UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) providing power to an HPE FM 3180 fabric module, HPE recommends the following: • The UPS must have enough capacity to power the fabric module plus any other equipment that is connected to the UPS.
Part Numbers FM 3180 is available with two AC power supplies. The power supplies can be ordered to exhaust out the back or front panel. FM 3180 is available with hot-swappable fans that either exhaust out the back (power) panel (red) or out the front (I/O) panel (blue).
I/O connections. To install an HPE FM 3180 or FM 3180 fabric module that lacks center mounting holes in a rack: 1. Determine the 1-U slot position in the rack.
Linux and the CLI. For serial access, the console system must be connected to the console port on the fabric module. To connect to the serial console port, use the following settings: • 115.2 Kbps • 8 data bits FM 3180 Installation Guide...

QSFP). • HPE FM 3180, FM 3032Q, FM 2072, 2, 2s, 2p, 2sp and 3eq fabric modules running at 10 Gbps per port (40 Gbps per QSFP). IMPORTANT: For Composable Fabric paths between fabric modules, you must make sure that all fabric modules use the same fabric port speed.
FM 1006 passive interconnect modules. Using FM 1006 modules, you can create a network topology that includes FM 3032Q, FM 2072, and FM 3180 as well as models 2e, 3eq, 2p, 2S and 2sp. IMPORTANT: In a mixed configuration, if the fabric contains an FM 2072 or models 1, 2, 2s, 2sp or 2e models that run at 10 Gb/s per port, the FM 3032Q ports must be set to operate at 10/40 Gb/s per port for compatibility.
The following illustration shows a network topology that connects the Composable Fabric across two racks using four FM 3180 fabric modules connected through an FM 1006 passive interconnect module. Note that all unused FM 1006 ports are looped back using loopback cables.
3, 5, 10, 20 and 100M). You need six cables to expand an FM 1006 device to other FM 1006 devices. For part numbers and descriptions of supported cables, refer to the document, HPE Composable Fabric Compatibility Matrix. FM 3180 Installation Guide...
To help in cabling the fabric, number the FM 3180 modules in the fabric starting with 1. For example, if you are connecting five FM 3180 modules, number them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You can affix a label to each fabric module for identification. Refer to the appropriate section that follows for your fabric size.

Adding Module #7 to a Six-Module Fabric You have an existing fabric with six FM 3180 fabric modules. You want to add another FM 3180 to make it a fabric of seven. To add the fabric module, you need to shift six existing connections and add three more cables.
To add the fabric module, you need to shift six existing connections and add three more cables. You start changing connections with HPE FM 3180 3 55, then HPE FM 3180 4, next HPE FM 3180 5, and finally number 6. The following table lists the re-cabling required by direction.
Adding Module #5 to a Four-Module Fabric You have an existing fabric with four FM 3180 fabric modules. You want to add another FM 3180 to make it a fabric of five. To add the fifth fabric module, you need to shift six existing connections and add three new cables.
Adding Module #4 to a Three-Module Fabric You have an existing fabric with five FM 3180 fabric modules. You want to add another FM 3180 to make it a fabric of six. To add the fabric module, you need to shift six existing connections and add three more cables.
Adding Module #3 to a Two-Module Fabric You have an existing fabric with five FM 3180 fabric modules. You want to add another FM 3180 to make it a fabric of six. To add the fabric module, you need to shift six existing connections and add three more cables.
You should have the transceivers you ordered for your HPE fabric module. The FM 3180 supports Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable (QSFP28) transceivers in QSFP ports 49-56. Important: Fiber optic modules are dust-sensitive. Always keep the plug in the optical bore when a fiber optic cable is not installed or when you store the module.
Ports and LEDs Front Panel SFP and QSFP Ports FM 3180 contains 48 SFP28 ports and 8 QSFP28 ports as illustrated below. QSFP28 ports 51-56 are used for Composable Fabric connections to other Composable Fabric modules. QSFP28 ports 49 and 50 can be used for Access or Uplink connections. These QSFP28 ports can remain single 100 GbE ports or they can break out into four 25 GbE SFP ports per QSFP282 port.
