6. Preparing the compressor for operation

Danger
Check the machine / installation for
external damage and faults at least
once per shift. Any changes noticed
(including changes in operating
performance) must be reported
immediately to the authority or person
in charge. If necessary, shut down and
secure the machine immediately.
6.1 Checking levels
6.1.1 Checking the oil level in the
pressure tank

Danger
Only check the oil level when the
engine is at a standstill and the
compressor is not under pressure.
The pressure tank may be under
pressure and the oil may be hot.
Risk of scalding! Spill no oil!
Check for leaks.
Proceed as follows:
*
Shut the compressor down and wait
until the system is depressurized, in no
case less than 5 minutes.
*
Before checking the oil level ensure
that the vehicle is standing horizontally.
*
Unscrew dipstick.
*
The oil level should be within the marks
on the dipstick.
*
Correct as required.
*
Check the seal on the dipstick and
replace if required.
*
Screw in dipstick and tighten firmly.
Attention
After a short test run, the oil level
should be between the markings on
the dip stick.

6.1.2 Checking the oil level in the
engine

Danger
Only check the oil level when the
compressor engine is at a standstill.
Spill no oil! The oil may be hot. Risk
of scalding!
Check for leaks.
Proceed as follows:
* Shut the compressor down and wait for
5 minutes.
* Before checking the oil level ensure
that the vehicle is standing horizontally.
* Unscrew dipstick.
*
The oil level should be within the marks
on the dipstick.
* Correct as required.
*
Screw in dipstick.
*
Close oil filler.
*
For oil specifications, see "Engine
Operating Manual".
Attention
After a short test run, the oil level
should be between the markings on
the dip stick.

6.1.3
Checking coolant level

Danger
The coolant header tank may be under
pressure and its contents may be hot!
Caution when opening the cap, danger
of scalding!
Avoid contact with the eyes and/or
skin, danger of corrosive burns!
In case of contact with the skin and/or
eyes, wash out/off under flowing water
and obtain medical assistance
immediately.
Proceed as follows:
* Shut down the compressor,
* Position the compressor horizontally
before checking the coolant level,
* The coolant level must be between the
two marks (MIN) and (MAX) (see Fig.
19)
*
Correct as required.
Attention
The coolant must be changed not less
frequently than every two years.
Only use corrosion inhibitors and
antifreezes recommended and
approved by the engine manufacturer!
Dispose of used coolant in accordance
with the relevant regulations.
