1.
Let the filter run for 24-48 hours to establish itself.
2.
Once the filter has been established, if required, adjust the water flow control valve (14)
to ensure the media is fluidising at the correct level (ideally between the max and min
fluidising levels shown in the photo on the right). Caution: With any adjustments made,
ensure that the media is always fluidising at the correct level. Please Note: Failure to do
so could result in over-fluidisation of the media and the media being pumped out of the
filter and into your aquarium or sump.
Please Note: Mature media with a well-established bio-film tends to be lighter and
therefore requires a lower flow rate to fluidise it to the correct level, so flow rates may need
to be reduced over time to compensate for this.
Please Note: Fluctuations in the water level in your aquarium or sump may affect the
fluidised sand level in your filter. Please ensure the media is always fluidising at the correct
level when adding or removing water.

Caution:
lways isolate the pump from the mains electricity before installing
or carrying out any maintenance to the filter. Please Note: The water flow
control valve (14) must always be fully closed before switching off the pump
or power filter.

V
Bio Filters should need very little adjustment and maintenance once set up correctly.
However due to factors such as organics, detritus, and in marine aquariums the salt and
calcium levels it is common for deposits to build up in and around the filter and therefore
it is recommended that the filter is cleaned periodically.
1. To operate efficiently, the filter must be in use 24 hours a day, as all fluid bed filters are
extremely sensitve to any interruption in water supply and any down time will reduce the
bacterial population and affect the biological efficiency of the filter.
2. Make sure all connections are tightly secured.
3. Check regularly if filter is functioning properly and the media is fluidising at the correct
level.
4. Ensure the inlet pipe (10) and the inlet/outlet hosetails (1 & 3) are clean and free of
blockages.
5. Clean your pump or power filter regularly to ensure it does not become clogged with
debris or detritus (refer to pump/power filter instructions for full maintenance instructions).
6. When carrying out routine maintenance ensure that the filter lid O ring seal (6) is
correctly positioned and free from any dirt, detritus, salt and/or calcium deposits. Failure
to do so could result in leaks.
USEFULTIP: During routine maintenance it is advisable to ensure that the filter lid O ring seal (6) is
checked for any signs of degradation and replaced accordingly. Spares are available from your
local stockist (part no 5725).
USEFUL TIP: For optimum results we recommend that the fluidising media is replaced or
topped up as required, for example if there is a build up of dirt or detritus or if media is lost
through over-fluidisation.
