The versatile compact design allows the V
in a sump or aquarium or externally as a stand alone or 'hang-on' unit.
Please Note: If using with phosphate removing media, please first read information on page 6.
Please Note: We highly recommend that both the diffuser bowl base media and the silica
sand (or marine oolitic sand if used) are thoroughly washed (SEP R TELY) before use.
1. Remove the filter lid (5) by carefully unscrewing it in an anti-
clockwise direction.
2. Ensure that the inlet pipe (10) is positioned correctly and
centrally in the media chamber (9) and diffuser bowl (11).
3. Using a measuring jug or a similar vessel carefully pour the
diffuser bowl base media (12) into the base of the filter ensuring
that it evenly covers the entire diffuser bowl and making sure
that no base media enters the inlet pipe (10).
4. Using a measuring jug or similar vessel carefully pour the V
Silica Sand (13) into the filter, making sure that no sand
enters the inlet pipe (10). USEFUL TIP: For saltwater
applications, marine oolitic sand is recommended as a fluidising

media in the V
Bio Filter, as it offers improved buffering
capacities and a higher surface area which are both very
beneficial to the marine aquarium. V
available from your local stockist (code 5724).
5. Ensuring that the lid O ring seal (6) is positioned correctly, replace the filter lid (5) and
securely hand tighten (failure to do so could result in leaks). Please Note: Make sure that
no media is trapped between the filter lid O ring seal (6) and filter lid (5). Failure to do so
could result in leaks.
6. Ensure there is adequate space in or around the aquarium or sump to allow the filter to be
securely installed. Make certain you locate the filter in a position where it can easily be
connected to the water outlet of your pump or power filter and so that the filtered water

leaving the V
Bio Filter can easily be returned to your aquarium or sump and the filter can
be accessed for maintenance and cleaning.
7. If required, hang the V
and tighten the securing screws (8), turning in an anti-clockwise direction.
Caution: Do not over-tighten the securing screws (8) as this
could result in operating problems.

locking nut and push it onto the water inlet hosetail (1).
9. Re-attach the water inlet hosetail locking nut (2) and
securely tighten. Please Note: Failure to do so could
result in leaks.
10. t a convenient position in the inlet hosing, ensure
that the water flow control valve (14) is installed and
then connect the hosing to the water outlet of your
pump or power filter.
Please note: The water flow control valve MUST be
installed as it will be used to regulate the water flow entering
the filter and it will help ensure the correct fluidising media
level is achieved. Please Note: Failure to install this valve
could result in over-fluidisation of the media and the
media being pumped out of the filter and into your aquarium or sump.
USEFUL TIP: There are a number of fittings and accessories supplied with the V
90° hosetails, which can be used to help connect your pump or power filter to the filter.
dditional connection fittings may be required, depending on individual installation requirements.
