Universal Power Supply (UPS)

4. Introduction

The Universal Power Supply (UPS) offers a wide ranging
power supply for MiniMax or cegard/Mini light curtains.
A voltage range from 20 to 265 VAC or a range from 20
to 375 VDC can be converted to 24V DC. If DC voltage
is used, the polarity of terminals P and N is irrelevant.
The output of the light curtain will be converted into a
potential-free relay contact.
For details about MiniMax or cegard/Mini light curtains,
please refer to the corresponding installation and
instruction manual.
The UPS consists of the controller and the required plugs
to connect the power supply, the outputs and the light
curtain.
The UPS is generally mounted on the top of the elevator
car or in the car-operating panel and acts as power supply
for 24 V light curtains such as MiniMax or cegard/Mini.

Features of the UPS

• Electrical isolation between high and low power side
• Potential-free relay output
• Robust housing with an IP54 enclosure rating
• Clear wiring due to separate clamps for emitter and
receiver
• On/Off buzzer function
• EMC filter ensures trouble-free operation

5. Installation

The installation should be done in the following sequence:
1.
Switch main power off and mark clearly that this
elevator is out of service.
2.
Install the light curtain emitter, receiver and cables.
3.
Mount the UPS.
4.
Carry out the electrical installation.
5.
Power-up and test for proper function.

Switch OFF main power

For your own safety, turn the power off before you start
working on the elevator! Clearly mark that this elevator
is out of service.
5.2

Installation of light curtain

The emitter and the receiver edges can be mounted either
to the door wings, to the door wing and the slam post, or
to a frame that is attached to the car. For details, please
refer to the corresponding installation and operation
manual.
Important:
Please note that objects smaller than the sensor spacing
may not be detected!
4
It is very important to pay close attention to a proper
cable installation to ensure the highest possible reliability
and lifespan of the light curtain. A properly installed cable
will withstand more than 20 million door movements,
while a poorly installed cable will break after less than
100,000 door movements.

Installation of the UPS

The UPS unit can be mounted horizontally or vertically with
four screws near the door drive.

NOTICE
The PCB is sensitive to electrostatic discharge
and must be handled with care to prevent
callbacks. Use anti-static procedures when
handling these boards.
For the USA and Canada:
Connect all wiring with more than 42 V
through a Greenfield fitting.
 Disconnect
the UPS to prevent electrical shock.
Otherwise serious injury or death may
occur!
