7. Starting to take photographs

7.1. Setting shooting mode

When the camera is switched on, shooting mode is enabled au-
tomatically. AUTO appears in the top left of the display in ba-
sic status to indicate automatic shooting mode. You can find out
more about the shooting modes and the icons on Page 188.
If playback mode is enabled instead of shooting mode, press the
button.

7.2. Tips for taking good shots

Move the camera slowly so that the photos do not become
fuzzy. The camera should not move when pressing the shut-
ter release. Do not move the camera directly after pressing
the shutter release.
View the subject on the display before pressing the shutter
release.
Check the angle if the subject is lit from behind. Change your
position to reduce the background lighting.
In order to shoot good video clips, move the camera around
slowly. If you pan too quickly, the video footage will be fuzzy
and blurred.
