1. STANDARD INTERCOM UNIT Each dwelling on your scheme will be fitted with an Advent xt intercom unit; there may also be others in communal areas, corridors and toilets. The intercom unit ORANGE cord or associated ORANGE ceiling pullcords located in bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. can be used to make an emergency alarm call. When operating in onsite mode all calls are reported on cordless handsets or desktop telephones. If there is no onsite manager then calls can be reported via local offsite mode to a mobile warden using a standard mobile telephone, or via remote offsite mode to a 24 hour control centre. 2. COMBINED INTERCOM UNIT Your scheme may be fitted with combined warden call & door entry intercom units. These have all the same functions as standard intercoms plus 2 additional buttons for door entry functions (instead of a separate door entry telephone). All cordless handsets and/or fixed desktop telephones will ring when a call exists in onsite mode. To answer a call using a cordless handset press the TALK key, if using a desk telephone simply lift the handset. When answered a speech message will identify the call type and flat number, the residents name may also be displayed if it has been programmed into the telephone name/number memory. When the alarm message is understood press the key to open two‐way speech with the caller. During speech the resident’s VOLUME can be increased with the 1 key or decreased with 2 key. See the table below for other features available on the telephone keys during a call. To end the call using a cordless handset press the # key followed by the END key to hang‐up, if using a desk telephone press the # key and replace the handset. 4. ANSWERING A CALL The telephone will ring when a call exists. If there are multiple handsets, the first person to answer will get the call, all other phones will stop ringing. An alarm message in the earpiece will announce the caller before you speak to them. ANSWERING A CALL: 1. When the handset rings press the TALK key Ring… 2. Listen to the alarm message in the earpiece Ring… 3. Press the key after the message to open speech 4. Speak to the resident, stop speaking to listen 5. Press the # key to end the call 6. Press the END key to clear the connection ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ NORMAL CALL TYPES: An alarm call initiated by a resident will normally be from the intercom unit, a ceiling pullcord or a personal pendant. 5. CALLING A RESIDENT You can call a resident any time by dialling their flat number on the cordless handset. To call any other intercoms in the common room, corridors, etc. use the same procedure but enter the actual intercom number. CALLING A RESIDENT: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. Wait for the “Ready” prompt in the earpiece 3. Enter the flat number of the resident you wish to contact 4. Press the key to send a call tone and open speech Press the 0 key to re‐sound the call tone if required 5. Speak to the resident, stop speaking to listen 6. Press the # key to end the call 7. Press the END key to clear the connection 6. SEQUENTIAL DAILY CALLS Routine daily calls to all residents can be greatly simplified by using the INDEX function. You can start sequential calls from any flat number. USING THE INDEX FUNCTION: 1. Call and speak to the first resident in the normal way 2. Press the 6 key to end the call 3. A message will announce the next flat number 4. Press the key to speak or the 6 key to skip Press the 0 key to re‐sound the call tone if required 5. Repeat as above through all flat numbers 6. 9. USING THE FIRE ALARM FUNCTION The Advent xt system has an optional fire alarm facility which can sound a fire tone through all intercoms on the scheme. The fire alarm tone can be started manually from the cordless handset or it may start automatically when the main building fire alarm is activated. The fire tone is an intermittent warble tone and is different to all other tones the warden call system normally uses. ACTIVATING THE FIRE TONE MANUALLY: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. Wait for the “Ready” prompt in the earpiece 3. Enter the code 1003 followed by the key 4. The fire alarm tone will sound through ALL Intercoms 5. Press the # key to stop the fire alarm tone 6. Press the END key to clear the connection ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If the fire alarm system activates you will receive a call on the cordless handset, if the Advent xt is operating in local or remote offsite mode the call will be dialled‐out. ANSWERING AN AUTOMATIC FIRE CALL: 1. Press the TALK key 2. A “Fire Alarm” message will repeat in the earpiece 3. Press the key to accept 4. Press the # key to cancel the call 5. Press the END key to clear the connection When the fire alarm call is cancelled the fire tone will start to sound through all intercoms ‐ this will continue until the buildings fire alarm panel is reset. Note; the fire tone is optional and may not be enabled. If you want to use the Advent xt system before the fire alarm panel is reset you can stop the fire tone by pressing the TALK key followed by the 5 key on the cordless handset. 10. SELECTING THE OPERATING MODE The Advent xt warden call system can report calls in three different ways; ONSITE MODE ‐ to an onsite carer via a cordless handset LOCAL OFFSITE MODE ‐ to a mobile carer via a mobile telephone REMOTE OFFSITE MODE ‐ to 24 hour control centre via the telephone line The operating mode is selected via a keyswitch on the Status Module, by entering special codes on the cordless handset or from the optional Manager’s Panel. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MODE SELECTION USING THE STATUS MODULE: The Status Module is usually wall mounted in the Managers office. 1. USING THE CALLS REDIRECT FUNCTION Calls from individual flats can be set to always report via a preset operating mode i.e. onsite, local offsite telephone number 1 to 6 or remote offsite telephone number 7 to 9. If the call remains un‐answered in the preset operating mode then it will automatically revert to the normal dial‐out sequence. REDIRECTING A CALL: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. Wait for the “Ready” prompt in the earpiece 3. Enter the code 6003 followed by the key 4. Enter the flat number to redirect followed by the key 5. 13. FAULT MEMORY The Advent xt system can store a number of faults in memory and still allow the remainder of the system to operate as normal until the faults are cleared. If the RED “FAULTS EXIST” light is lit on the Status Module this means one or more faults are stored in memory. LIST THE FAULT MEMORY: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. Wait for the “Ready” prompt in the earpiece 3. Enter the code 1008 followed by the key 5. Press the END key to clear the connection ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CLEAR A FAULT FROM MEMORY: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. Wait for the “Ready” prompt in the earpiece 3. Enter the faulty intercom number followed by the key 4. Press the # key to end 5. Press the END key to clear the connection 6. If the fault re‐reports, answer as normal, press the 5 key and the fault will be parked again. To clear a fault memory the problem must first be rectified then the associated intercom unit must be called back. If the fault has been fixed it will be cleared from the memory, if it still exists it will re‐reported again. Any “system faults” stored in memory e.g. mains fail, will be removed automatically when the fault clears. 14. CALL MEMORY ...
15. SETTING THE SYSTEM TIME & DATE The Advent xt system has a real time clock with automatic British Summer Time (auto‐BST) adjustment. The clock is used for activity monitoring mode and recording the time and date of all events on the optional printer. SETTING THE SYSTEM TIME: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. Wait for the “Ready” prompt in the earpiece 3. Enter the code 2000 followed by the key 4. A message will announce the time (24 hour format) 5. If the time is correct press the # key to accept followed by the END key to exit the mode 6. If the time is incorrect; enter the new time (HHMM) in 24 hour format e.g. 1300 = 1PM followed by the key, then press # followed by the END key to exit the mode. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SETTING THE SYSTEM DATE: 1. 17. USING THE LOCAL OFFSITE MODE The Advent xt system may have a local offsite facility to divert calls to a mobile warden. Answering a call in local offsite mode is identical to onsite mode except site identification is included in the message. The procedure for cancelling a local offsite call differs slightly from the onsite mode procedure. Local offsite mode can be enabled/disabled using a special code from the telephone. If disabled all alarm calls will be reported in onsite or remote offsite mode only, mobile numbers will not be dialled. ANSWERING A LOCAL OFFSITE CALL: 1. Press the LINE key 2. Listen to the site ID and alarm message in the earpiece 3. Press the key to open speech 4. Speak to the resident, stop speaking to listen TO END THE CALL: 5. Press the # key once 6. 18. SETTING THE OFFSITE DIAL SEQUENCE Up to 6 local offsite and 3 remote offsite telephone numbers can be programmed into the Advent xt system, the order in which they are dialled can be changed by entering a special code via the CORDLESS handset. 19. RELEASING THE MAIN ENTRANCE DOOR LOCK The Advent xt system may be fitted with a door entry panel at the main entrance. You can speak with visitors at the door and allow access by releasing an electric door lock. RELEASING THE MAIN ENTRANCE DOOR LOCK: 1. Answer the call in the normal way 2. Press the 3 key once 3. The lock will release for a preset time (10 seconds) 4. Press the # key to end the call 5. Press the END key to clear the connection 20. RELEASING THE KEYSAFE The Advent xt system may be fitted with an intercom unit alongside an electric keysafe with the facility to open the safe. RELEASING THE KEYSAFE: 1. 22. USING THE EXTRACARE FUNCTION Extracare intercom units are available for categories of schemes where alarm calls must be cancelled at the source. Both normal and Extracare intercoms can be mixed to maximise operational efficiency whilst ensuring care level compliance. When a call is made from an Extracare intercom it is reported and answered in the normal way but it cannot be permanently cleared until it has been visited and cancelled locally. The Extracare option is available on standard and combined intercoms. If normal cancellation is attempted the call will simply re‐report after a preset delay (typically 5 minutes). CANCELLING AN EXTRACARE CALL: 2. Pass the magnetic RESET FOB down the right hand side of the intercom to be cancelled. 1. The indicator light will FLASH RED on an Extracare intercom awaiting cancellation. 3. The intercom will emit several short beeps and the red light will go out/dim when the call is cancelled.
23. USING THE GLOBAL ACTIVITY MONITORING FUNCTION The Advent xt system may be fitted with PIR movement detectors in each flat to monitor the residents activity. Three time periods can be programmed to operate on a daily basis. The flat numbers with NO ACTIVITY will be reported at the end of each period. Global Activity settings apply to ALL flats on the scheme. Local Activity settings apply to specific flats – see Section 26. The activity monitoring feature can be temporarily disabled by selecting “Away Mode” – see Section 30. SETTING THE GLOBAL ACTIVITY START TIME: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. 24. TO ENABLE/DISABLE GLOBAL ACTIVITY MONITORING Vacant or temporarily unoccupied flats can have the activity monitoring disabled to prevent in‐activity calls being reported every day. 25. USING THE LOCAL ACTIVITY MONITORING FUNCTION Up to 3 local activity monitoring periods can be set on a per flat basis, local inactivity is reported the same as the global activity. Local activity monitoring times can have an interval assigned to them which will split the time into smaller inactivity reporting periods. The interval is programmable on a per flat basis from 0 to 999 minutes (0 = disabled). If during an active monitoring time period an interval elapses where there has been no resident activity then an inactivity alarm will be signalled for that resident. This will be repeated for each interval within an active monitoring time period. SETTING THE LOCAL ACTIVITY START TIME: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. 27. USING THE INTRUDER FUNCTION Individual flats can have the activity monitoring mode changed to an intruder alarm mode if they are going to be vacant for a prolonged period. Note: intruder mode is automatically enabled when an intercom is set to “Away Mode” – see Section 30. Any movement detected in the flat via the PIR detector will report an intruder alarm call rather than simply logging the activity. Three special codes can be entered via the cordless handset to select intruder mode related functions. SET INTRUDER MODE: 1. Press the TALK key and enter 8 1 2. 28. USING THE CLIENT WANDERING FUNCTION The Advent xt system can be used with a radio door contact (Tynetec P/No. ZXT434) to monitor if a resident leaves their flat during a preset time period each day. The start and stop times can be set on an individual flat basis. If a resident leaves their flat during the set period a “client wandering” alarm will be reported. 29. USING THE I’M OK FUNCTION The Advent xt system can be set to flash the green light and sound a double‐beep every 20 seconds on the residents intercom unit during a preset time period each morning ( audible alert can be disabled). If the resident is “up and about” and feeling “OK” they can press the button on their intercom to stop the alert and clear their flat number from a list in the Advent xt memory. The flat numbers of the residents that HAVE NOT registered themselves “OK” can be checked at any time by entering a special code on the telephone handset and listening to the list in the earpiece. Another code can be entered to automatically call those who have not responded each day. The I’m OK feature can be temporarily disabled by selecting “Away Mode” – see Section 30. 30. USING THE AWAY MODE FUNCTION If activity monitoring or I’m OK mode is being used and the resident is going away for a day or more they should select “Away Mode” on their intercom to prevent inactivity calls being signalled each day. Press and hold the button to select away mode, when away mode is enabled a series of tones will sound and the indicator lamp will be FLASHING AMBER. I’m OK and activity monitoring is now disabled. After a 5 minute exit time intruder mode will automatically be enabled. The flat numbers of the residents that have away mode enabled can be checked at any time by entering a special code on the telephone handset and listening to the list in the earpiece. When the resident returns home the away mode must be turned off to allow the activity monitoring and I’m OK features to operate as normal again. Press the button once to turn away mode off, a series of tones will sound and the amber indicator lamp will stop flashing. 32. USING THE MESSAGE SERVICE The Advent xt has the facility to leave a recorded message for any resident when they return to their flat. A message is recorded by entering a special code on the cordless handset followed by the flat number. The light on the residents intercom will FLASH BLUE and series of tones will sound every 60 seconds when there is a message waiting. The resident can play the message by pressing the button on their intercom. The message can be repeated for up to 1 minute following its first playback before it is automatically deleted. Once called the resident can allow access by pressing the button on their door entry telephone. With no call and the telephone on‐hook the same button is used to select privacy mode. A user guide is provided with each telephone. If a resident is away, or you do not want them to receive calls from the door entry system, their calls can be transferred to a neighbour or the Managers telephone. ENABLE DOOR ENTRY TRANSFERS: 1. SETTING TIMED DOOR ENTRY CALLS The Advent xt door entry system can be set‐up to operate in 1 of 3 modes; 1 . allow calls from door entry panels to all flats 24 hours a day 2 . disable all calls during the evening/night (time period programmable by Engineer only) 3 . disable calls during evening/night but allow exclusions (user programmable) If a call is made from a door entry panel to flat number which has calls disabled the visitor will automatically be transferred to the Manager. 41. INTERCOM UNIT TEST MODE The intercom unit “Test Mode” allows all ceiling pullcords, smoke detectors and radio pendants etc. to be tested on a per‐flat basis without putting a call on the system. Once in Test Mode the intercom will beep as each device is activated, the system printer will log each test with the flat number, device type, time & date. The intercom must be in a quiescent state to enter the Test Mode, i.e. not in privacy mode, not in away mode, no message waiting, no alarm call in progress and not awaiting Extracare cancellation. 1.
