Enabling digital closed caption capture and
playback
If you have an SDI video source that contains digital closed caption data in the
VANC (vertical ancillary data space), MXO2 lets you capture the closed
captioning along with the video using MXO2's SDI input. You can then play
back the video with closed captioning using MXO2's SDI output.
When using MXO2's SDI input for capture, you can choose to use SDI
embedded audio channels seven and eight to preserve the closed caption data that
is in your source video's VANC. Because your embedded audio channels seven
and eight will be used for capturing closed caption data, those channels will not
be available for capturing audio. The closed caption data is captured as audio in
your video clip.
¦ Note
Closed caption data that is present in line 21 of the active video is not
transferred to the audio tracks because it is captured by MXO2 as part of the
video signal.
When using MXO2's SDI output for playback, you can choose to retrieve and
output the digital closed caption data that was captured using MXO2. The closed
caption data is retrieved from audio tracks seven and eight in your video
application (Final Cut Pro) and output using MXO2's SDI output. Because tracks
seven and eight are used for closed captioning, they will not be available for
playing back audio. When output, the closed caption data is restored to your
video's VANC.
¦ Note
For information on how to set your Final Cut Pro settings to capture and
play back closed captioning, see
