QUICK START GUIDE
1. Turn C-Pen on by pressing the Nav Wheel.
2. Hold the pen over the first character of the
line you wish to scan, keeping the Scanner
Tip flat against the paper. Aim at the
middle of the line.
3. Press and hold the Trigger. Drag C-Pen
over the line at an even pace, as smoothly
and straightly as possible. After the end of
the line, release the Trigger.
4. The text you have just scanned should
appear on the Display.
5. To scan another line, repeat the process. A
space will be automatically inserted
between lines. To insert a line break, press
the Trigger once with the pen held away
from the page.
6. On the Display, the most recent line you
scanned is highlighted. To delete the
highlighted text, press the ESC button.
7. When you are done scanning, press the Nav
Wheel. On the menu that pops up, select
Exit. The Save As dialog box appears.

What is C-Pen good for?
C-Pen is a completely portable text scanner. It
does not need to be connected to a computer,
though you can transfer text to any PC or Palm
device. C-Pen has its own Optical Character
Recognition software, and is much faster than a
flatbed scanner for small quantities of text.
You could use C-Pen to copy quotations for a
paper, with non-circulating or archival material,
or with any materials that wouldn't do well on a
flatbed scanner.
C-Pen is not able to recognize handwriting or
badly obscured printed text. For these items you
might want to try the HP CapShare, the KNC's
portable image scanner.
The Nav Wheel
The Nav(igation) Wheel is used for navigating
and selecting on the C-Pen Display, and for
turning the pen on and off.
Press and hold for two seconds, then release to
turn C-Pen on or off
