TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

POSSIBLE CAUSE(S)
THE PERCOLATOR DOES NOT TURN ON
1. The percolator may not be properly connected to the power supply
or the fuse may have failed.
2. Boil dry feature may have been activated. If the percolator is accidentally
switched on with no water inside, the boil-dry device will switch off the
heating element to prevent damage to the percolator.
3. The percolator does boil but the power light does not illuminate.
INDICATOR LIGHT HAS NOT TURNED GREEN
1. If the switch on the percolator is off, the green light will not turn on.
2. If the switch is on and there is no green light, then your percolator
may be faulty.
WATER IS SPURTING OUT OF THE SPOUT
1. You may have overfilled the percolator.
2. The percolator may have descaling solutions remaining inside
the body.
MARKS HAVE APPEARED IN THE PERCOLATOR
1. Small brown spots can build up inside the percolator. This is not rust,
small deposits of limescale which contain iron can build up inside the percolator.
2. A build-up of coffee residue on the heating plate.
WATER DROPLETS COLLECTS ON TOP THE POWER BASE
1. This is condensation and perfectly normal.
COFFEE GROUNDS FOUND IN THE CUP
1. Excessive amounts of coffee grounds are present in the bottom of the
percolator or cup.

SOLUTION(S)
1. Check the plug is in the socket and the switch on the power base
is turned on. Replace the fuse if necessary.
2. Wait 10 minutes for the percolator to reset.
NOTE: if discolouration of the heating plates has occurred,
this can be easily removed by descaling your percolator.

on 01293 652500 for further information.

lectrical safety
• B
efore plugging in, check that the voltage marked on the appliance
corresponds with the supply voltage.
• N
OTE: any plug cut from the power supply cord should be disposed
of immediately. Inserting any cut off plug into a 13A socket-outlet is
hazardous.
• N
ever use the plug without the fuse cover fitted. Ensure replacement
fuse is the same current value as the original. Replacement fuses are
available and should be ASTA approved to BS1362.
• A
short power-supply cord is to be provided to reduce risks resulting
from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
• D
o not operate any appliance with a damaged lead or plug, or after the
appliance malfunctions or has been damaged, cracked or dropped in any
manner.
I
f the power cord is damaged it must, for safety reasons, be replaced by
Dualit or an authorised Dualit repairer.

o disconnect, switch off, then remove plug from wall outlet.
• U
nplug the power base from the wall socket when not in use, or before
moving and cleaning.
• E
nsure that the percolator is correctly positioned on the power base
before switching on.

o be protected against electrical hazards, fire and injury to persons, do
not immerse the mains lead, plug, power base or percolator in water or
any other liquid.

se the percolator only with the power base supplied and vice versa.

o not move while the percolator is still switched on.
• R
emove the percolator from its power base before filling or pouring.
• E
nsure that the lid is fully closed before switching the kettle on,
otherwise it may not properly switch off, causing a scalding hazard.
• A
void the spillage of any liquid on the connector.

eneral safety
• N
OTE: when you lift the percolator from the base, you will see drops
of moisture on the surface of the power base. This is perfectly normal,
and should not be cause for alarm or returning the percolator.
• D
o not place the percolator, power base or mains lead on or near any
hot surface, hot hob, gas burner or in a heated oven.
• D
o not use the percolator for any purpose other than mentioned in this
instruction booklet. Otherwise, this may result in an injury caused by misuse.

o not operate the percolator on an inclined plane.
• D
o not use in bathroom or outdoors.
• D
o not store or use in an appliance garage or under cupboards.
• D
o not operate the percolator unless the tube, basket and lid assembly is
correctly in position.
• D
o not remove or open the lid while the water is boiling as scalding may
occur.
• U
se handles or knobs – do not touch hot surfaces.
• I
f the percolator is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected, causing a
scalding hazard.
• W
ater/Coffee will remain hot for a considerable time after boiling and can
present a scald hazard. Heating element surface is subject to residual heat
after use. Keep the percolator, power base and the mains lead away from
the edge of worktops and out of the reach of children.
• W
hen boiling, hot steam will be emitted from the percolator.
Scalding may occur if you are within 400mm of the spout.
• S
calding may occur if the lid is opened during the brewing cycle and the
body of the percolator will get hot.
• T
his percolator features boil-dry protection. If the percolator is accidently
switched on without water, the boil-dry device will switch off the heating
element to prevent damage to the percolator. Wait approximately 10
minutes for the percolator to cool down, lift and refill as normal. The
percolator is now ready to use again. NOTE: if discolouration of the heating
plates has occurred, this can be easily removed by descaling your percolator.

ake care when pouring – pour slowly and do not over-tilt the percolator.
• A
llow the percolator to cool down completely before cleaning and storing.
• CAUTION:
to prevent damage to the appliance, do not use alkaline
cleaning agents. When cleaning, use a soft cloth and a mild detergent.
• T
he use of accessory attachments not recommended by Dualit may result
in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
• U
se handles or knobs do not touch hot surfaces.
• W
ater will remain hot for a considerable time after boiling and can present
a scald hazard.
• K
eep the percolator, power base and the mains lead away from the edge
of worktops and out the reach of children.
• D
o not allow the mains lead to hang over the edge of the worktop, or
anywhere it may accidentally be caught or tripped over.
• D
o not switch on unless the percolator contains at least four
cupfuls of water.
• D
o not operate unless floor of the percolator is covered.
• D
o not fill above the 10 cup mark on the water level indicator.
• E
nsure the clear knob on the lid is not damaged or cracked
before use.
• D
o not operate the percolator if filled with descaling
solution.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Unpack the box with care, keeping all the packaging materials until you are satisfied
everything is present and in working order. Once satisfied remove any tags from the
appliance body and recycle the packaging appropriately. Do not remove tags from the
cord. You may wish to keep the box to store your appliance.
