  • Page 5 Introduction Introduction The LPKF MultiPress S is an easily handable benchtop system for the low-cost pressing of multilayer printed circuit boards for the electronic sector. The MultiPress S is suitable in particular for prototype and small series production. It allows rigid, rigid/flexible and flexible printed circuit board materials to be pressed to a multilayer PCB.

    3. Installation/Putting into operation Read this chapter and observe the safety instructions before installing the MultiPress S and putting it into operation.     The MultiPress S weighs 170 kg (375 lbs). Lifting it manually can overstress the spinal column and cause permanent damage. WARNING For the installation of the MultiPress S, use a crane or a lifting device. Observe the maximum allowed loads.

    Tip: Detailed information on special applications, materials tested by LPKF and tips for optimum processing can be obtained from the LPKF Support. 4.1 Structure of a multilayer In order to produce a multilayer as thin as possible, we recommend the use of the following LPKF materials.

    Use only materials approved for multilayers and observe the WARNING application information in the data sheets. We recommend the use of the LPKF multilayer kits. They contain all materials required for the pressing of a multilayer, including the consumables required for the press process.

    4.3 Assembly of a multilayer The multilayer materials must be assembled for the press process in the press mold developed especially for the MultiPress S. The press mold consists of the two aluminum parts with dowel pins. Press sheets and cushions guarantee an optimum pressure distribution in the press mold.

    In the MultiPress S with automatic hydraulic pump, the heating and pressing stages are carried out automatically. In the MultiPress S containing a hand pump, the pressure must be built up before each pressing stage and controlled and tracked during the entire press process.
