1 Introduction 1.1 General Information The following document contains a procedure for connecting the Lumistar LS-28M device to an Ethernet control and status network. The manual will cover the following topics: 1.) The mechanical interfaces and interconnects to the LS-28M device.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 1.2 Mechanical Information Figure 1-1 below shows the mechanical outline and footprint of the LS-28M modular receiver unit. The unit’s weight is approximately 1.9 pounds (0.86 kg). The unit provides free-fit #6 clearance holes at each corner for mounting.

The power interface provides three power pins as well as three power returns. All six power related pins should be utilized to ensure proper current provisions for the Micro-D contact ratings.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 2 Introduction 2.1 LS28App Software Installation The unit is delivered with a user level software application that will run on any Windows 7-x86/x64 or Windows 10-x86/x64 platform. To install the software, perform the following steps: Step 1:Insert the provided disk into a DVD drive and launch the setup application on the disk.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 2.2.1 Modification of a Windows Hostcontroller to Static IP mode To modify the controlling host’s network configuration to static IP mode, perform the following steps: Step 1: Connect the LS-28M to the target host machine either directly with a Ethernet crossover cable or by connecting both the device and the host to an Ethernet switch using standard Ethernet cables.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 Step 6: From the Local Area connection Properties window, double-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”. Step 7: To set the unit to a static IP address, select the “Use the following IP address:” option. Then enter the desired IP address in the designated field.

Step 10: Launch the LS-28M application. If the network configuration is setup up properly, the application will find the device.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 Step 6: From the Local Area connection Properties window, double-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”. Step 7: To set the unit to DHCP mode, select the “Obtain an IP address automatically” option.

Step 9: Launch the LS-28M application. If the network configuration is setup up properly, the application will find the device.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 Step 3: To set the unit to a DHCP network configuration or change any of a number of other network parameters, select the NETWORK tab on the web browser. This will bring up a network parameter similar to the one shown below.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 Step 4: To make these connection changes complete, a power cycle of the LS-28M unit is required. 2.2.4 Modification of the LS-28M network configuration from DHCP to static IP mode To modify the LS-28M to a static IP address network configuration from a DCHP network configuration, perform the following steps: Step 1: Connect the LS-28M unit to a DHCP enabled network.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 3 LS28App Software Application Overview 3.1 LS28App General Layout The supplied user application, entitled LS28App, provides general control and status of all of the LS- 28M functions. When initially launched, the application goes through a discovery mode followed by an client display mode.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 dialogue is a set of horizontal tabs. These tabs allow access to various levels of control and status of the unit. Along the top of the screen is the main menu bar that offers more file controls, access to general system setup parameters, archiving controls, as well as access to various software and functional tools.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 The Communications/GUI menu options allow the user the same discovery tab options as are available at the initial launch of the application. A restart of the application is required to make any selections on this menu active.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 The GT Calcs menu option initiates the G/T solar calculations using the receiving hardware on-board. The tool allows for the entry of solar flux parameters as well as information pertaining to the antenna.

For example, if the user desires the unit perform multi-symbol PCMFM demodulation, this is a specific mode of operation. The primary available modes as of the date of this document are as follows: PSK demodulation, Single-Symbol/Analog FM demodulation, Multi-symbol PCM FM demodulation, MH-CPM demodulation, and PCM Bit Synchronizer ONLY mode.

Figure 3-7 illustrates an example of the DIGITAL tab.

Lumistar LS-28M Quick Start Manual - R2 Figure 3-7 LS28App Main Client Window – DIGITAL Tab 3.6 LS28App TEST Tab The horizontal tab control for TEST allows the user access to six receiver Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs) as well as two transmit BERTs. Figure 3-8 illustrates an example of the TEST tab. This tab allows for the status and count of lock/unlock conditions, bits received, as well as calculated bit error rates of various patterns for each symbol stream of the receiver engine.

Figure 3-9 illustrates an example of the DISPLAY tab.

Persistence settings become host processing intense the larger the value programmed so take this into account if the GUI response becomes sluggish.

It supplies information such as firmware version programmed in the device, hardware versions of the associated assembly hardware, the operational voltage, current and temperature status of the hardware, and present communication setups.
