This television was certified to meet the technical performance standards effective in April 2004
for "Public Alert" video display devices as defined by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)
and federal agencies who participated in defining this new product classification. Only devices
which meet the complete standards of the CEA2009 technical standard can show the Public
Alert logo. This model decodes and shows the proper text for new alert codes proposed for use,
and meets the technical requirements for reception sensitivity to ensure consistently high quality
when properly used. This model incorporates alert codes and geographic coverage areas unique
to the United States and all U.S. Territories, and cannot operate properly outside these areas.
The Alert Guard™ system reduces annoying "false" alarms by pinpointing geographic areas in
and surrounding your immediate neighborhood. Alerts received by the Alert Guard system include
over 30 NOAA natural and weather events such as tornados, flash floods, avalanches, blizzards,
forest fires, hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Additional state and county
emergency alerts include localized chemical spills, nuclear power plant emergencies, gas line
breaks, chemical storage center emergencies, train derailments, oil refinery fires, immediate
evacuations, and missing children alerts (AMBER alerts). Local emergency messages are
available in all states, but some counties may not yet include all of the non-weather local alerts,
including the AMBER alerts. As the alert system expands nationally, Alert Guard is prepared
to receive alerts for areas of the United States and all U.S. territories where broadcast reception
is available --- as of April 2004, this includes approximately 95% of the U.S. population.
Additional alerts are provided for all 50 states for national, regional and state civil emergencies
including high-level federal emergencies, national attack warnings, terrorist attack alerts,
bio-warfare alerts, and other immediate life-threatening emergencies. These national security
alerts are relayed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), an agency of the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security, and are transmitted over the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA)'s broadcast network.
The Public Alert logo is a trademark of the Consumer Electronics Association.
