Introduction Spectrum SPECTRUM SRO Systems are durable and high performance, designed to offer years of reliable operation providing the proper care is taken. This manual outlines installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting details vital to sustained performance. If a system is altered at the site of operation, or if the feed water conditions change contact your local dealer or distributor to determine the proper recovery for the application.
  • Page 4: Safety

Safety Spectrum The safety section of this manual outlines the various safety headings used throughout this manual’s text and are enhanced and defined below: CAUTION: Indicates statements that are used to identify conditions or practices that could CAUTION result in equipment or other property damage.
  • Page 5: Feed Water & Operation Specifications

Feed Water & Spectrum Operation Specifications Feed water quality has the greatest effect on the operation of Reverse Osmosis Systems, therefore it is important to ensure that the feed is within the operating parameters. NOTE: It is very important to meet the minimum feed water requirements. Failure to do so will cause the membranes to foul and void the manufacturer’s warranty.

NOTE: All TDS figures must be expressed in the same units, typically parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per litre (mg/l). SPECTRUM Reverse Osmosis Systems are designed to reject up to 98.5% NaCl unless computer projections have been provided or stated otherwise.

Spectrum Operation Guidelines Plumbing The membranes and high pressure pumps used on the SPECTRUM Systems require continuous flow of water with a minimum feed pressure of 3.1 bar and must not exceed 38°C. Feed Water Connection 1. Locate the 3/4" FNPT solenoid valve feed water inlet.

4.1 bar. Pre-filtration SPECTRUM Systems are supplied with a carbon block filter. Change the cartridge once a month or when a 1 bar differential exists between the two pre-filter gauges. NOTE: The system must be operated on filtered water only.

The brine seal is a rubber seal that protrudes on one side of the membrane and is always on the feed side of the membrane element. On SPECTRUM Systems the brine seal should be on the top side of the membrane housing.

Initial Start-up Spectrum 1. Keep the permeate water line to drain for this procedure. 2. Fully open the concentrate valve (Figure 1, Item 5, Counter Clockwise). 3. Fully close the concentrate recycle valve (Figure 1, Item 6, Clockwise). 4. Adjust the throttle valve at 50% open (Figure 1, Item 18, Counter Clockwise).

The system restarts automatically when the pressure drops below 2.75 bar. Pump Throttle Valve The pump throttle valve is installed as a standard feature on SPECTRUM systems. It provides an adjustment for pump pressure. As the feed water temperature decreases and/or the feed TDS increases, the system will require a higher operating pressure to produce the specified permeate flow.
  • Page 16: Preparation For Storage & Shipment

Preparation for Storage Spectrum or Shipment NOTE: Prior to shipping or storing a system for more than three weeks, the system should be cleaned with an appropriate cleaner, flushed with water and protected from biological attack with an appropriate solution for membrane elements. The membrane housing(s) and plumbing lines of the system must be completely drained.

  • Page 18: Membrane Temperature Correction Factors

Membrane Temperature Spectrum Correction Factors Find the temperature correction factor (TCF) in the table below. Divide the rated permeate flow at 25°C by the temperature correction factor. The result is the permeate flow at the desired temperature (see example). If the system is rated to produce 18.9 lpm of permeate water at 25°C, the same system will produce more...
