    G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument 1. Introduction General The G4 Instrument is a high performance multi-channel weight indicator intended for industrial systems. Its basic function is to convert the signals from strain gauge transducers to useful weight information. Transducer excitation is included as well as parameter controlled signal processing, indication of output levels, error supervision and operation of optional external equipment.

    Technical Manual Functions Measurement with strain gauge transducers. Both excitation voltage and output signal are measured at the transducer to avoid influence from voltage drop in the connection cable. Excitation to the transducer, from the G4 Instrument is provided over separate wires. A shielded 6-wire cable must be used to connect a distant transducer to the instrument.
  • Page 7 G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument Instrument modes. In normal operation mode the G4 Instrument is presenting the measurement values on the front panel graphical display. One or more weighing channels can be shown simultaneously. The user can configure the display via set-up parameters. During parameter set-up the instrument will continue normal operation.

    Technical Manual Maintenance The G4 instrument needs no maintenance, performed by the end-user. Any service or repair work must be performed by qualified personnel. Contact your supplier. Cleaning Before cleaning the G4, break the power connection to the instrument. Use a soft cloth to clean the exterior of the instrument. For cleaning the instrument front panel, a soft, damp, cloth may be used.

    G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument 2. Installation Mechanical installation See chapter ‘Introduction – Technical data’ for references to PM, DT and HE mechanical measures: outer extents, body extents and panel cutout (PM). PM type instrument: Make sure the panel thickness meets the specification and that there is room enough behind the panel for the instrument and the connected cables (minimum 200 mm).

    Technical Manual Electrical installation The field wiring of the instrument shall be suitable to the environment (e.g. chemically) in the end-user application. Mains cables shall be separated and routed away from SELV or SELV-E field wiring. For DT and HE instruments UL Listed and KAM cord type flexible cables shall be used. The cable diameters must be selected in accordance with the strain relief specification.

    G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument CPU unit External computing devices connected to the CPU communication interfaces of the instrument have to comply with the standard, UL 60950. The internal battery in the CPU module is to be used only in the equipment where servicing of the battery circuit and replacement of the lithium battery will be done by a trained technician.

    G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument DC SUPPLY The output of the external DC source must be rated 24 V , ±15% including fluctuations, min. 40 W. The DC source must provide Double Insulation between Mains parts and 24 V SELV or SELV-E Circuit, and a limited-energy circuit (maximum available current of 8 A).

    Technical Manual AC SUPPLY Mains supply cable shall be separated and routed away from SELV or SELV-E field wiring. The branch circuit protection in the building installation must be rated maximum 16 A for the instrument, where AC SUPPLY module is mounted. Remove power before removing the module from the instrument.

    Technical Manual Front panel Display At normal operation the instrument displays weight value(s) and, in some cases, the gross weight as a graphic bar. Presentation, together with the weight value, of preset tare, status for the level supervision can also be selected in Parameter Set-Up. If an instrument error occurs, the weighing function is stopped and the instrument switches over to Error mode, indicating a code for the error at the display window.

    G4 Multi Channel Weighing Instrument 3. Set-up General All operating functions in the G4 Instrument are controlled by parameters. The parameter values are permanently stored in the instrument and will not be lost when the unit is switched off. At delivery the parameters are factory-set to default values, giving the instrument an initial standard function.

Such as display language, display mode, security, key functions and so on. Hardware Configuration: Parameters used for configuring the instrument hardware. Note that when the instrument is starting up it will check that the installed hardware is compatible with the settings.
