Cabinet should be made from 3/4" thick wood panels The overall cabinet height can be varied by altering the top door. This will allow the foot board to be higher or lower than the mattress when the bed is down.

This simple addition will ° stop "things" from falling in to the cabinet behind the mattress. A board, chamfered at 45 on the top, and the same width as and slightly higher than the mattress is bolted to the bed frame.
