Using kickdown
%
Manual gearshifting: kickdown is only pos‐
sible if you have activated manual gearshift‐
ing with the steering wheel gearshift pad‐
dles. If you have activated manual gearshift‐
ing with the button in the center console,
kickdown is not possible.
Maximum acceleration: depress the accel‐
#
erator pedal beyond the pressure point.
During kickdown, you cannot shift gears using
the steering wheel gearshift paddles. The auto‐
matic transmission shifts up to the next gear
when the maximum engine speed is reached to
protect the engine from overrevving.
Ease off the accelerator pedal once the
#
desired speed is reached.
Glide mode function
Glide mode is characterized by the following:
The combustion engine is disconnected from
R
the drivetrain.
The engine speed corresponds to the idle
R
speed.

appears in the multifunction dis‐

play.
Glide mode is activated if the following condi‐
tions are met:
The ECO start/stop function is activated.

Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC: Drive pro‐

gram E is selected.
Mercedes‑AMG E 63 4MATIC+ and

Mercedes‑AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+: Drive pro‐
gram C is selected.
You are no longer depressing the accelerator

or brake pedal.
The speed is within a suitable range.
R
The course of the road is suitable, e.g. no
R
steep uphill or downhill gradients.

Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC: Glide mode
can also be activated if you have selected
the "Eco" setting for the drive (engine man‐
agement) in drive program I.
Mercedes‑AMG E 63 4MATIC+ and
%
Mercedes‑AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+: Glide
mode can also be activated if you have
selected the "Comfort" setting for the drive
(engine management) in drive program I.
Glide mode is deactivated again if one of the
conditions is no longer met.
