    Weltmeisters und Weltcup-Gewinners. Dazu kommen ver- schiedene Distanzweltrekorde. Im August 1989 wurde der allererste ADVANCE-Gleitschirm auf dem Markt eingeführt. Mit dem ALPHA 2 wird nun der 17. Schirm aus dem Hause ADVANCE lanciert. Die einzigartige Philosophie in der Entwicklung ihrer Produkte hat ADVANCE zu einer Marke mit individuellem Charakter gemacht - in Technologie, Sicherheit und Leistung immer auf dem neusten Stand.

    DER ALPHA 2: RELAX YOUR MIND! Seine Einfachheit und die grosse passive Sicherheit machen den ALPHA 2 zu einem idealen Schirm für ein sehr grosses Publikum. Er nimmt auch unpräzise Steuerausschläge fehlerver- zeihend auf – sogar während der Startphase oder in der Thermik.
  • Page 7 Mit einem kleinen Griff wird die äusserste Leine heruntergezogen. Ein elastisches Band lässt den Griff beim Loslassen in seine ursprüngliche Position zurückgehen. Einer der wichtigsten Punkte in der Konzeption des neuen ALPHA 2 ist die Verwendung von Zugbändern. Diese werden zwischen den D-Aufhängepunkten jedes einzelnen Profils über die ganze Spannweite eingenäht.

    MATERIAL Laufend überprüfen und testen wir die Vielfalt der angebotenen Werkstoffe. Wie alle ADVANCE- Produkte wurde auch der ALPHA 2 nach neusten Erkenntnissen und Verfahren entworfen und hergestellt. Die verwendeten Materialien haben wir sorgfältig und unter Berücksichtigung strengster Qualitätsansprüche ausgewählt. Die Lebensdauer eines Schirms hängt stark von dessen Gebrauch und Pflege ab.

  • Page 10: Flugbetrieb

    Wir empfehlen dir, die ersten Flüge mit dem neuen Gleitschirm in einem dir bekannten Fluggebiet zu machen. Einige Aufziehübungen im einfachen Gelände stärken von Anfang an dein Vertrauen in das Handling des ALPHA 2. Kontrolliere vor jedem Flug das Fluggerät auf Mängel (Kalotte, Leinen, Tragegurten, Karabiner, Gurtzeug). Der Schirm ist für Kunstflug und Motorflug nicht zugelassen.
  • Page 11 Normalflug: Der ALPHA 2 gleitet am besten durch völliges Freigeben beider Steuerleinen. Durch leichtes Anbremsen wird das Sinken verringert. Beim Durchfliegen von turbulenter Luft kann der Schirm leicht angebremst und dadurch stabilisiert werden. Der ALPHA 2 hat lange Brems- und Steuerwege.
  • Page 12 Symmetrisches oder asymmetrisches Einklappen des Segels: Der ALPHA 2 überzeugt durch seine sehr straffe Kalotte. Mit einem aktiven Flugstil sind Klapper fast vollständig zu verhindern. Bei Klappern (über 50%) reagiert der Schirm durch leichtes Abdrehen, das aber gut kontrollierbar ist. Wir empfehlen dir folgende Verhaltensregel: Verlagere bei einem Klapper das Gewicht auf die noch offene Seite des Schirms.
  • Page 13 Schirm nach dem Freigeben der Steuerleine noch bis zu einem Umgang nachdrehen! Symmetrisches Einklappen der Flügelenden (Ohrenanlegen): Der ALPHA 2 ist mit einer Hilfe ausgestattet, die dir das Ausführen dieses Manövers erleichtert. Zuerst werden die beiden Griffe am A-Tragegurt gefasst und vom Velcroband gelöst. Hebe dann die Arme so hoch wie möglich an und ziehe zuerst deutlich gegen aussen.
  • Page 14 B-Stall: Das Profil des ALPHA 2 ist zugunsten der Kappenstabilität derart dick, dass eine B-Stall- Konfiguration nicht möglich ist. Die Kappe lässt sich nur mit übermässigem Kraftaufwand und mit zuwenig wirkungsvollem Ergebnis deformieren. Der B-Stall gilt nach unseren Erkenntnissen nicht mehr als zeitgemäss und effizient. Ausserdem wird das Material extrem beansprucht.

    WARTUNG UND BETRIEBSDAUER Packen: Falte den Schirm Zelle auf Zelle, so dass die Verstärkungen der Zellwände in der Eintrittskante möglichst flach aufeinander zu liegen kommen. Tipps zur Wartung: • Lass deinen Schirm vor oder auch nach dem Flug nicht unnötig an der Sonne liegen. •...

    • Normale Abnützung des Materials. GURTZEUG ADVANCE Der ALPHA 2 kann mit jedem Gurtzeug geflogen werden. Wir empfehlen dir jedoch die ADVANCE-Gurtzeuge. Ebenso wie die ADVANCE-Gleitschirme sind auch die Sitzgurte von ADVANCE einzigartige Produkte, die ausschliesslich aus Qualitätsmaterial hergestellt werden.

  • Page 28 Fermetures: L’ALPHA 2 est une aile très stable avec laquelle un pilote actif volant dans des conditions normales rencontrera peu de fermetures. Dans le cas d’une fermeture importante (plus de 50%), l’aile engage un virage lent du côté fermé mais reste contrôlable.
  • Page 29 De plus l’épaisseur du profil de l’ALPHA 2 au niveau des B rend cette manœuvre très physique à réaliser, voire impossible si votre force physique ne vous permet pas de soulever votre poids, car l’aile refuse de se déformer.

    ADVANCE is also no stranger to success in competition, with numerous titles including those of world champion and winner of the World Cup, not forgetting several world distance records. ADVANCE celebrated the 10th anniversary of the first wing in 1999. The ALPHA 2 is the 17th model marketed by ADVANCE.

    Because of its ease of use and high level of passive safety, but also thanks to its performance and character, the ALPHA 2 is a glider for a very wide range of pilots. It tolerates imprecise pilot’s movements that still lack precision or symmetry, particularly when taking off and flying in thermals, but also gives great pleasure to the pilot whose feeling is developing and whose movements are becoming more precise.

The 3 risers are easy to manage when used for training, and for a beginner. They give the best efficiency when using the speed system, sufficient for this type of glider.

    THE MATERIALS The ALPHA 2, like all ADVANCE products, is produced as the result of the latest developments and experience in the sport. All the materials used for the paraglider have been carefully selected in order to allow our products an excellent longevity. The materials are systematically tested and all canopies undergo quality control testing.

  • Page 42: Pre-Delivery Inspection

    Please fly the glider within its limits and avoid extreme situations. Attention: even though the ALPHA 2 gives the impression of being very safe and stable it should not be forgotten that even gliders in this class require active piloting. It should therefore only be flown by pilots that have suitable experience.
  • Page 43 Take off: The ALPHA 2 is suited to forward and reverse inflations. Lay the canopy out so as to maintain its elliptical form at the leading edge. Hold the risers below the large quick link then advance until the suspension lines are under light tension. Position yourself in a central position relative to the canopy.
  • Page 44 Big ears: The ALPHA 2 has a clever big ears line that enables the pilot to easely facilitate the manoeuvre. A small handle attached to the A riser by velcro is lifted up and pulled down enabling big ears to take place.
  • Page 45 In addition to this it can also damage the glider. We therefore recommend that this manoeuvre is not flown with the ALPHA 2 because the thickness of the profile at the B lines makes it very physical to do, even impossible when you are not strong enough to lift your own weight.

    CARE & MAINTENANCE Folding: We recommend that the canopy be packed by folding cell to cell in order to lay the mylar reinforcements of the leading edge flat and on top of each other. Do not pack the canopy very tightly. Maintenance advice: The lifetime of the canopy can vary considerably depending upon the care that you take with its use and maintenance.

    He will be able to advise you how to have larger repairs carried out. GUARANTEE Your ALPHA 2 is guaranteed against any manufacturing fault for a period of one year from and including the day of delivery. This date should be written on the card accompanying this manual and posted within 10 days of delivery.

    THE ADVANCE HARNESS The ALPHA 2 can be flown with any harness. We recommend, however the use of ADVANCE harnesses. Just like ADVANCE paragliders, ADVANCE harnesses are unique products, manufactured exclusively from quality materials. All models were developed by ROBERT GRAHAM as a result of countless flying hours and belong to the latest generation of paraglider harnesses.

    CERTIFICATION The certification test are, with ADVANCE, the final step in the development of a new wing. We make them only when we are satisfied with the wing, aeronautically speaking. We remind you that the behaviour of a glider is very different whether it is in thermic conditions, as with real flying conditions, or smooth air, as for test conditions.
