IV) OPERATION Normal Operation: When hot water is being used, cold water enters the bottom of the heater (either bottom feed or Temperature Adjustment by diptube), and the bottom element will begin to heat the WARNING: cold water. Pressure Build-Up (Thermal Expansion) During the heating cycle of the water heater, the water expands creating a pressure build-up in the plumbing sys- tem. If the pressure exceeds 150 psi, water will come out of the valve. This is a normal safety function of the T&P valve.
