gear shaft 20. Shaft 20 is slotted to match the forked in-
ner section of 22. Key 24, anchored by a pivot pin in 22,
is spring-loaded (23) so that it pops up through the slot
in 20 to engage the keyway of the gear in line with its tip.

A spring detent on the feed rate selector knob ensures
that the pivoting key is positioned to engage only one
gear at any given setting.
