Adjusting the network settings on the PC

Adjusting the network settings on the PC
If you have connected a PC to your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX and cannot open the config-
uration software in the Web browser, read the next chapter for information on which
settings you need to adjust.
Modern PCs with the Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating system
are normally already configured so that they can easily be incorporated in a local net-
work. The connection with your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX is established automatically if
the general configuration of your PC complies with this standard.
If you have changed the network configuration on your PC or the configuration soft-
ware of your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX can be accessed for other reasons, check the net-
work settings and change them if necessary.
The PC needs to satisfy the following conditions for you to establish a network:
u
There must be a network adapter installed in the PC; the TCP/IP network protocol is
set up.
The Windows user interfaces depicted in this user guide may differ from
i
those on your screen because of the settings you have made. In each
case, the view that usually follows the initial installation has been chosen.

DHCP

Activate DHCP to enable the DHCP server of your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX to assign an IP
address to your PC. Depending on the structure of your local network, select one of the
following procedures:
u
If you have connected your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX directly to a PC, activate DHCP on
this PC.
u
If you have connected your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX to several PCs via a switch or hub
to form a local network, activate DHCP on all the PCs in the network.
u
If you have connected your Gigaset SE681 WiMAX to one or more PCs via a router,
you must activate DHCP on the router. For details, please read the user guide for
your router.
i
You need administrator rights on the PC to set up the network. If neces-
sary, contact your system administrator.
Depending on your PC's operating system, continue by reading one of the following
chapters:
u
Windows Vista: "Windows Vista: activating DHCP" on page 47
u
