Notes on display group 002:
♦ What is displayed in display block 2 is the injection time
which corresponds to the inducted air mass and the
engine load at idling speed. This readout is a computed,
theoretical value which, for processor-related reasons,
relates only to one crankshaft revolution. Engine load
at idling refers to the natural friction of the engine and
the drive of the ancillaries which have to be overcome.
The inducted air mass is shown in display block 4.
♦ In contrast, what is shown in display block 3 is the in-
jection time which results from a complete power stroke,
in other words two revolutions of the crankshaft.

Cause of fault
♦ Large quantity of unmetered
air between intake manifold
and air mass meter
♦ Gear engaged (automatic
gearbox)
♦ Engine load because of ancil-
laries
♦ Nevertheless, what is shown in display block 3 is not
approximately twice the readout of display block 2 but
is a corrected, actual injection time. It is corrected by
variable parameters such as:
- Lambda control
- Fuel supply from activated charcoal filter
- Air density, air temperature
- System voltage (more rapid / slower opening of injec-
tors)
♦ If, for example, the engine inducts unmetered air, only
the computed value in display block 2 (injection time
for each crankshaft revolution) should change. The
actual injection time for each power stroke is maintained
at the specified value by the lambda control.
