To remove the strainer cover with O-ring on a Hayward SP1580 pump, ensure the pump is off and depressurized. If the cover is difficult to remove, apply a recommended lubricant to the O-ring only (not Vaseline) to reduce friction. Avoid using excessive force that could break the cover. If it remains stuck, gently tap around the cover and use a strap wrench if needed.

Clean strainer basket regularly. Do NOT strike basket to clean. Inspect strainer cover gasket regularly and replace as necessary. Hayward pumps have self-lubricating motor bearings and shaft seals. No lubrication is necessary. Keep motor clean. Insure air vents are free from obstruction.
