modem
delays

an
intermediate
dial
tone
is
set

the
S8
register.
(Recall that
a
comma
is
used
in
the
dialing
com-
mand
to allow
for
a
second
dial
tone,
used
with
many
PBX's.)
Note
that
the
modem
does
not
actually "listen"
for
the
intermedi-
ate
dial
tone
(unless
you
use the
W
command)
;
it
just
delays
for
a
period
and assumes
that
the tone
is
present.
Consequently,
if
a 3
or
NO
CARRIER
result
code
is
rendered
frequently,
try
increasing
the value
of S8.
Note
that
the value
of
the
registers
is
an
expres-
sion of
seconds.
