CHECK IT OUT
Moon and planets
The Moon orbits around Earth once every
month. You can clearly see its movement
over the course of one or two days if you
look at the sky at the same time each night.
The full moon in particular is almost
impossible to miss. But you can see a

particularly nice sight just a few days after a
new moon, when it shows itself as a delicate
silver sliver in the evening sky.
Along with Earth, there are seven other
planets that orbit the Sun: Mercury, Venus,
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
The easiest to find is Venus. For weeks at a
time, it shines very brightly just after
darkness falls. Jupiter and Saturn are clearly
visible in the sky for a few months every year.
Jupiter is the largest planet, and shines with
a striking brightness. Saturn has a pretty
ring, but you will need your telescope to see
it. Mars is only clearly visible about every
other year. It has a reddish color. The other
planets are difficult to see, or can't be seen at
all with the naked eye.
