    Preparing for Shooting Insert the Battery and Memory Card Battery latch Memory card slot • Press the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover latch release (1) and rotate the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover latch (2) to open the cover (3). • With the battery’s positive and negative terminals oriented correctly, move the orange battery latch (4), and fully insert the battery (5).

    Opening/Closing the Battery-Chamber/Memory Card Slot Cover Do not open and close the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover in a sandy or dusty environment or with wet hands. If the cover is closed without removing foreign particles, water may seep inside the camera or the camera may become damaged.

    Charge the Battery With the battery installed, connect the camera to an electrical outlet.     Turn the Camera On and Set the Display Language, Date, and Time When the camera is turned on for the first time, the language-selection screen and the date and time setting screen for the camera clock are displayed. Press the power switch to turn on the camera.

    Notes About the Monitor • Monitors and electronic viewfinders are constructed with extremely high precision; at least 99.99% of pixels are effective, with no more than 0.01% being missing or defective. Hence while these displays may contain pixels that are always lit (white, red, blue, or green) or always off (black), this is not a malfunction and has no effect on images recorded with the device.

    Using the Battery When Cold On cold days, the capacity of batteries tends to decrease. If an exhausted battery is used at a low temperature, the camera may not turn on. Keep spare batteries in a warm place and exchange as necessary. Once warmed, a cold battery may recover some of its charge.
