General
This manual is for Airfix expansion vessels with a capacity of
2 and 4 litres.
The package includes an expansion vessel (A) with label (B),
and a manual (C). See the label for the maximum permissable
working pressure and the pre-charge.
Installation
• Expansion vessels with a capacity of 2 and 4 litres are instal-
led hanging on the water nipple (D).
• If the expansion tank is to work properly, a pressure-reducing
valve must be fitted immediately behind the water meter.
Applications
• Use on the cold-water side of drinking water installations in
combination with a tank-type boiler system.
• Use in pressurized systems in order to reduce the number of
pump strokes.
• Any form of warranty or liability will be voided if used in any
other way.

First use

1. Close the water supply (F).
2. Adjust the pre-charge of the expansion vessel to a value of
0.2 bar higher than the minimum cold-water pipe pressure.
See the vessel label for the pre-charge.
• Remove the guard (G).
• Measure the pressure (H).
• Push the inner valve (I) lightly if the pressure is too high.
• Measure the pressure again.
• Repeat this procedure until the pre-charge is correct.
3. Install the guard.
4. Open the water supply.
5. Examine the seal for leaks.
Maximum water absorption
Consult the Flamco technical documentation for the correct
calculation.
4
De-installation
1. Close the water supply (F).
2. Remove the pressure from the system.
3. Remove the guard (G).
4. Push on the inner valve (I) to drain the pressure (H) from the
expansion vessel.
5. Unscrew the expansion vessel (A).
The installation must be carried out by approved
personnel only.
Observe local regulations.
Caution:
the water in the expansion vessel may be hot.
Safety requirements during installation
The expansion vessel comes pre-charged: damage
may result in serious injuries.
The piping must be able to carry a full expansion vessel.
Safety
• Prevent overpressure in the installation. Install a safety valve
(for example Prescor B) or a safety group in the boiler pipes
to ensure this.
• Set the opening pressure of the safety valve to a value that
is equal to or lower than the maximum pressure shown on
the label.
• The connection between the expansion vessel and the boiler
must always be open.
Do not use hemp.
1. Put Teflon tape (E) on the expansion vessel connection.
2. Screw the expansion vessel onto the T-piece or the
expansion pipe.
Maintenance and service
The pre-charge must be checked annually to make sure that the
expansion vessel is in working order.
If water disappears through the safety valve, it is possible that
the pre-charge is too low. Check this in the following manner:
1. Close the water supply.
2. Drain the boiler until the pressure is 0 bar.
3. Check the pre-charge (see 'First use').
4. Increase the pre-charge with nitrogen or eventually
compressed air.
Make sure that the pre-charge is not higher than the maximum
working pressure. If the expansion vessel cannot be pressurized,
it is possible that the membrane has a leak. You must then
replace the expansion vessel.
Caution:
a full expansion tank is heavy.
Environment
Observe the local regulations when you dispose of
the expansion vessel.
